When I saw some wasps hanging around the house, I did some research and found out wasps and bats can co-exist.

Also, the 1 1/2 space between the chamber walls are not conducive to wasp nest construction.

Anywho, the wasps seemed to have moved on.

I'm glad this experiment was successful.  Gives me incentive to build a bunch more this winter, for next year.

Just a little update based on observations.

I cant tell how many bats have moved in, but I can observe two at the same time flying around my yard. So a least two Roll Eyes

I go out after sunset while the sky is still somewhat light and can see them flying around, darting left, right, up and down at about 30-40 feet high.  I've caught them dropping out of the house to take flight, but you got to concentrate cause they're quick and again only seen two.

Maybe it's my optimistic thoughts, but it seems there are a lot less bugs on my window and doors screens at night, than I remember previously to bat house install.

Annaway, I'm glad it did this little project and plan on expanding bat dwelling construction.

Happy to learn your experiment was successful.    I have a 15 foot tall post at the back of my property (was initially the temporary power pole for construction of our home and left there for some reason) that I'm considering adding a bat house that would surround the top of the post.   Not sure if it'll get any bats but, I've got plenty of meals (mosquitoes) to offer up as protein for them.   The pole is a 6 X 6.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Recently, the major health concern is the  mosquito borne disease triple E.

For some reason it seemed to disappear during the Covid pandemic. Roll Eyes

So installing a bat house is a good health decision to  cooldude

There's a ton of information online on how to build and install a bat house.

Some of it is specific to the region of the country you live in.

If I were to try to utilize a pole, like you're suggesting, I would build a double back to back house, as high as possible and install some type of preditor guard.

Sun exposure and bat house color are important things to consider.

Mine is mounted on my house and being in New England that's a good thing because it helps retain heat.

I'm very lucky and I feel pleased that I got residency in the first couple months .

The pole is approximately 15 feet from ground level to the top of the pole (depth is unknown but it's been there 20 years or so, must have been a treated post).   Not real sure about predator guards but will investigate.  Thanks.

Came across this, thought it was interesting and might be helpful.

It does appear that my 15 ft. pole will work although, I may have to move it for it to get enough sunlight.   Hmmm, decisions, decisions.    Undecided

Lots of good info in that article  cooldude

I hope you go forward with this, it's a good thing to do and a mostly maintenance free hobby.
