Ride Safe, Be Kind

Hi All,

The Valk has a new bit of company in the garage.  I picked up this 1966 Honda 305 Scrambler (CL77) and I'm undertaking a full restoration.  The engine is locked up, the exhaust is wrong and it needs everything.

Back in the 60's, my dad rode a Hodaka Ace 90 but all of hs friends rode 305 Scramblers.  It is TINY next to the Mothership but I can't wait to ride it.

Here is a video of the walk around and my first impressons.

The Ace 90 was the precursor to the Super Rat. I’d love either one of them. In my opinion the Super Rat was the dirt bike of its day. (Of small bore bikes)

I graduated high school 1968.  I was motorcycle crazy and had no money to work with.  Rode junk bikes mostly.  In 66 I drooled over the 305 scrambler.   Hope you can make it like new again

I remember when Elvis rode the similar Honda 305 dream in the movie Roustabout.

Well, that is a project indeed.

I’ve resurrected a few like that; definitely rewarding when you get them to fire.  Try putting it in second gear and rocking the machine back and forth.  Usually a stuck motor will turn over if the cylinders have been soaked for a few days (Any thin oil will work).

From there it is timing chain adjustment, valves adjusted, then timing spark.  I’ve always struggled with the carb floats on those sloper style engines.  They are finicky on the height of the floats to get them just right.

Get it running before you do any cosmetic work; you have to see what you have in regards to engine/transmission issues before going any further.

Best of luck.
