After my computer crashed a few months back I had to try and reestablish what I could but my Excel wasn't one of them that came through so I checked for cost to reload and wow...so decided against it. Unbeknownst to me, my 3T external backup had developed a migraine somewhere along the line so that proved useless in the end so there I sat...a bit irritated(understated Wink). A local shop tried but was unable to recover anything from the HD and upon checking I found some companies that would do what they could to recover files but it would run right at or above $1800. My main desire was pictures, many included pictures of my two girls that were lost to cancer in their 40's and 50's. So for now, I'll do without.

Now to address the post title. In comparison with the MS version, it's pretty much a duplicate and quite easy to use. There is a small learning window but I've pretty much passed that point except for one issue that bugs me. In their Excel version, every time I hit Enter the cursor jumps down one row. I recall in the MS version I was able to change that(formatting maybe?) to eliminate that auto-function but can't seem to find anything that lets me do it in Open Office. It has caused some frustrating errors and slows down what I'm working on. Has anyone ever used Open Office and if so, have you found a way to stop the row jumping upon pressing enter?

I have not used the software you asked about but, regarding the backup, I have several hundred (well maybe more I did not count them) slides and pictures that I had coverted to digital format.

After communication with Serk about long term reliable storage I invested in a QNAP NAS.  If provides a storage location that is relatively protected from error.  And you can also back it up to a single drive.

The only problem is that it's a little slower to access data since it communicates with my computer via the house Internet system.

Just a thought.

I use Open Office on my computer (also too cheap to get MS Office), but I haven't run into that feature to be bugged by it. Sorry I can't help.

Somewhere in the Libre Office general settings you can find the options regarding using particular keys to navigate cells in their spreadsheet software.. some settings are universal and some are specific to a particular sub program.
Can't recall exactly but it's there, type your question into the browser and you should find some joy. Libre Office forums are full of good info as well.

Good luck!

I haven't tried it, but have been tempted by their ads, but StackSocial has some great prices on lifetime versions of MS Office.  The only catch is that its a one time download for one computer.
