Ok, this is just one of those things (for me at least) that borders on "Stupid is as Stupid does".

Now the headline is correct.  But the man was not arrested because he was clocked driving 150 MPH.  He was arrested based on a video he posted that showing him traveling 55 miles in about 20 minutes (according the video time).  At least that is they way I read the information quoted below.

I often wondered about "authorities" using the information from videos to identify speeding.   Never heard of it being used until I read this article.

Of course I could be wrong.

From the link below:

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV/Gray News) - A man was arrested in connection to a YouTube video featuring a motorcyclist driving from Colorado Springs to Denver in 20 minutes.

The Colorado State Patrol shared a video of the incident with the public in late January. In the video, the motorcyclist appears to hit speeds more than 150 miles per hour while “squeezing” through small gaps between vehicles, according to Colorado State Patrol.

The trip from the center of Colorado Springs to the south side of Denver is about 55 miles, which typically takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. This motorcyclist allegedly did it in 20.

“Illegal and reckless driving behavior will not be tolerated in Colorado,” stated Sergeant Troy Kessler, with the Colorado State Patrol’s Public Affairs Office. “We care too much for those traveling on our roadways to ignore the blatant disregard for the safety of others.”

Pa. TPK. Oh Pike  Jersey pike and N Y thruway Could and WOULD give you a ticket based on the time stamp of the toll between exits. I NEVER got one But had talked with Drivers that had received the high speed driving award. As I recall this was about the 70s and 80s. Been a while since I've been in a triple digit large car. large car-trucker slang fer Fast Truck. And the triple digits were ALL to the Left of the decimal point! Capable of at Least 100 MPH. In case you was a wunderin bout 120 in Nevada more years than I care to admit to was about The Fastest I've ever driven-aimed-an 18 wheeler. Statute of limitations ARE Long Past!  Roll Eyes RIDE SAFE.

Would that be called hearsay testimony?  He was not seen or caught! Videos can be faked.

I was sort of thinking the same thing (faked or modified).  Which is why it caught my attention.

We have a portion of I-26 here in SC that is being "upgraded" (  Grin Grin Grin ).  It has been going on for three years (if I remember correctly).  The lanes are all moved around.  The roadways are fully bumps and giggles and just plain crappy and the lanes are sort of narrow.

The speed limit posted is 60 MPH.  Ninety percent of the cars and trucks do at least 70 MPH with some doing 80 MPH.  No one has ever been stopped or ticketed (at least I have never seen a Highway Patrol car anywhere on the roadway).   So, you just flip your middle finger at the speed limit.

Now this is not the only time this happens but in the case of this 15 to 20 mile stretch of I-26, the limit is there for a reason.

I suspect that our Police Departments (at least at the state level) have sort of been told to stand down.  Just my two cents.

And yes, I use to ride at about nine over the posted limit.  Toady, maybe five over.

I just want fair and useful enforcement of the laws.

Well I don't live THAT far from Arkansas and just from personal observations as a W A G in The Natural State speed limits at best are a suggestion. RIDE SAFE.

If the video shows a bike he officially owns, and a plate registered to him (state DMV records), and its a guy exactly his size, then there' plenty of evidence to bring charges.  Show it to a jury and make the defendant try to show it's not him or his bike.  They give him (his attorney) an advance look at the video (trial discovery), and what you will get is an offer for a plea bargain.

The old "it wasn't me, it wasn't my bike and plates, and I didn't do it" defense blows, and after conviction, at sentencing the state argues sworn liars (at trial) deserve the harshest punishment.

The turnpike time stamp tickets are real.  Though it's never been clear to me how they prove who the driver was (video from the toll booths?).  A couple times running the Pennsylvania and Ohio turnpikes over the limit (all day), I just stopped at a rest stop near the end of the trip and relaxed for 30-40 minutes, before exiting a toll booth.

One doesn't speed to make time, one speeds to have fun and reduce the boredom of the long trip.   Grin

Though in my older age, I tend to play with the cruise control and set it at 9 over, or to keep up with a group of speeders, and slow down in the big and medium city areas where there is always more enforcement.  And this always gives better gas mileage than just cowboying it.   Smiley

You're speaking as a lawyer who retired from practice before the era of prevalent, consume level AI generated media was a thing... Trying to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that a video was not AI generated throws a new fly in the ointment...

I'll take a step back and throw my $0.02 on the whole thing - On my Libertarian principles I stand by "No Victim, No Crime". There was no crime committed.

I understand and completely sympathize with your point of view.

The question is:  Who exactly is going to generate a bunch of AI video of me speeding (when I wasn't)?  And why?   I'm not Vito Corleone.   Grin

I had not considered the notion/thought of it being fake (AI done) as being an argument as to innocence.

You are correct.

The creator himself, or someone working for him could create it to generate Youtube traffic and money...

I don't honestly think that's what happened, just putting out that the whole "AI Thing" is a new wrinkle in using photographic/video/audio media in a court setting theses days, and it's gonna get worse...

Edit to add - things getting spicy...

Great - that's all we need - even more ways that the candidates can generate even more spam.

PS - I HATE election season because of this.

If you loan a vehicle  and it is involved in an accident ,run a toll booth, caught on red light turn or any other violation , it is on the owners nickel. This is Illinois law  crazy2.
Before doing a favor , think it thru. We have all been in this situation.
