Looks like we are gonna get hit the next 2 nights. Anywhere from 6"-12" expected with 35-40 mph winds. Glad i'm in the open. Blizzard conditions they say. Havent had it this bad in 8 yrs. Sweet! Bring it on! It sux cause I gotta work Tue night. Hopefully the next crew comes in on time and I wont have to spend 3 straight days in a row working again. It was so bad we had plow trucks station at EMS and FD to make paths when we went out. Looks like I better run to the liquor store!

Here too Fudgie... Weather dude sez 8" - 16", depending on location. Starting tonight, and all the way to Wednesday morning. We've had a wimpy winter, as far as snow, so this will be more like normal. Then, in the days that follow, cold... I need a ride Black Dog

6 - 12..... that's a dusting compared to the 24 inches dumped on us on Friday, still digging out from that. And Tuesday we are to get 6-12 more as well. I had to do some maintenance on the snow thrower after all the use it got this weekend.

6 - 12..... that's a dustingYep, you guys got thumped by that one... Better you than us I can't imagine getting all that at once! Where do they put it? We've had a few very snowy winters the past 3 - 4 years, but 6" here, 10" there, another 11 - 14, a few days later... This year has only been one 12 incher, and we need to wait and see what tomorrow brings. The storm headed yer way, is the leftovers from what's gonna hit us. You can have it. Again, I need to ride Black Dog

Lots of the roads are still bad, plowed lanes are narrow and not even down all the way to the pavement in some areas. Some streets have yet to be plowed and over 50 thousand people are still without power. The downtown street cleaning is terrible... still covered. Some of the state roads are bad with ice under the snow like a washboard effect. Fortunately snow throwing into a yard isn't too bad when clearing a driveway, sidewalk or walkway.... but those plows can only put it on the sides of the street (making that narrow path). And with a 2 foot high (and higher) snow fall, the plow doesn't even come close to the sidewalk, so the cleared path on the sidewalk isn't plowed back over (provided there is a sidewalk). I think they are going to take some snow in dump trucks and put it in parks that are not being used and possibly slip some into the rivers as well. Oh and if we get a good warm up.... the rivers will be flooding too.

I live near PAVALKER and here are a couple pics. I measured 18" just off my front porch at 8am Saturday and it was still snowing hard. Probably got another couple inches before it stopped. My power has been off since Saturday morning...it went off during the night Friday several times. But was on when we woke up. But neither our Dish Network Satellite TV nor our Satellite Internet were working...so I trudged out into the knee-deep snow with a broom to clear the TV dish, which is on a post near the ground. Then I went and dragged a ladder out and climbed up to clear the internet dish which is on the corner of the roof of my house. I went inside and had internet and TV for about 10 minutes and the power went off for the last time. It still isn't on...I have no heat and no water, and the tree pulled my phone line down off my house (but it still works). My house was 37 degrees when I left for work this morning. I ran my wife and kids up to Weirton to my mother-in-law's yesterday, and I stayed at my parent's house next door so I could keep an eye on things. They don't have power either, but they have a wood burner and a generator, so at least they have some heat and we could watch some TV...although their satellite wouldn't work. Last night, they got the power back on the street next to mine, so I'm hoping I'll have power by the time I get off work, but I have yet to hear from my dad about it. We got all dug out Saturday with the skid loader, so at least we got that done. And I have a kerosene heater that I have been lighting to keep the pipes from freezing. I'll tell you...this has been one crazy weekend. Here's a couple pics. I thought this one was funny how the snow just piled up on my deck railing... Here is another view of my deck. You can see how much snow is piled on top of my girls' playhouse... Here is a view from my front porch... And a view looking back at my house from my mailbox. You can see the wire that my tree pulled down... And finally, here is what my road looked like at 8am Saturday... I'll have to get a few pics of my driveway and yard all dug out tonight. That gives a good perspective of just how much snow there is. And like PAVALKER said...they are calling for 6"-12" more tomorrow!!!

Actually, the roads aren't too bad around me, at least for my Jeep Cherokee. They've got them all plowed...although some are only one lane in places due to a tree down across part of the road. Some roads are still closed due to trees and wires down in places. We ventured out Saturday evening and one road near me had not yet been plowed. So it was just a couple packed ruts going through the snow. Not bad with a 4x4 until you meet someone coming the other way. But they must have got that one plowed yesterday because it was pretty good last night. Some roads are melting off pretty good now, but alot still have a real rough hard-pack ice that is like a washboard as PAVALKER said. The big thing is the power outages, which means I have no heat and no water. So we had to go elsewhere for now. Hopefully it will be back on soon...although with the next storm coming tomorrow and Wednesday, it will probably just go out again.

Still no power and Allegheny Power's recorded message when you call in is now saying "by Sunday"!!! Last night, we ran extension cords from my dad's generator to my house (next door) so I could plug in my freezer to keep from losing all our food. And I took all my fridge stuff and put it in coolers out on my back deck to keep it cool. I just hope no coons or anything get into it. I bungee'd the lids down so we'll see. Anyways, I said I'd post a few pics of the after-dig-out. I took these last night. Driveway... End of driveway by the road... To avoid having to shovel a path from the house to the driveway (over 100ft), I cut a path with the skid loader. It is just wide enough for my Cherokee... And finally, another look back at the front of my house. You can see how high the snow is piled... Like I said, they are officially calling for another 6"-10" now for tonight and tomorrow, and I just read that another clipper storm is lining up for Saturday!!! The scary part is that as late as this past Friday evening, they were calling for 6"-10" where I live and we got more than double that. For the most part, the snow isn't so bad. I just wish my power would come back on.

Bob, If things don't get better, or get much worse... and you need a warm bed, hot shower and some light .... give me a holler... you could probably drive the Skid Loader over and we could put it to use here too. My snow thrower got a work out this past weekend here at my place, over at Mom's, her neighbors, my GF's, her neighbor, my daughter and a VTX buddy. I had to give the snow thrower some cleaning and adjustments to prep for this wave coming today. Oh and Snow Throwers don't like those little solar powered yard lights... it reminds them of summer I guess..... it chewed one up and spit it out ..... It wasn't one of mine tho....

That's funny about the solar light. Thanks for the offer, but my brother has power so I can go there for showers, etc. And my parents have heat from a wood-burner, so I've been sleeping there. I'll be ok. I don't know about the skid loader though...my dad tried to start it yesterday to try and move the piles of snow back to make room for the new storm and it wouldn't start. It is diesel and doesn't like the cold, so he ran the battery dead trying to start it. And without power, we can't even use a battery charger. We are going to try and get my Jeep in there close enough to run jumper cables to it. Hopefully they will reach. If not, we still have Dad's lawn tractor which he has a snow-blower attachment for it. So my brother came over last night and we dug it (the snow blower) out of the back of the shed so we can use it if need be. It was pretty much buried because we really haven't had enough snow the past few years for it to even be worthwhile. And with the skid loader available...that's just easier anyways. So it was buried, but we got it out.

Dang Bob, sorry to hear about your power being out so long. We don't get much snow here NC anymore but back in 93 we got hit by major blizzard. Left us with 24 to 30 inches of snow. Drifts up to 5 feet. Our power was out for 10 days. I hope they get y'alls back on soon and you don't lose any food. Best of luck to ya man.

Day 5 and still no power. I called Allegheny Power again and their recording (you cannot even get a human now) is now saying that by the end of today, we should have power restored. I hope!! Man, this is sure feeling like a long week. One good thing though is that the snow storm we were supposed to get (6"-10" forecast) is looking more like it will be closer to the 6" rather than the 10". It is still snowing pretty hard, though...so we'll see what we end up with. The snow had changed over to rain last night for awhile which reduced the totals...the bad news is that left a bunch of ice everywhere. And it is windy, so all the snow we do have is blowing around and drifting.

End of driveway by the road... Powerlines is how I make a livin' every new line we build is tied up in court for years ( nobody wants a powerline in their yard ) . The lines we build are highlines some pushing 750,000 KV . When a tornado , ice-snow take out the lines and folks don't have power they love to see our crews and equipment rollin' into the hood however when the power is back on they are the same folks that have us in court keeping us out of their neighbrhood. The town of Gatlinburg ,Tennesse will go black someday soon they have developed the area so much with motels ,resturants, retiement homes, amusement parks etc. The lines that feed Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are at max and with every route we have for new lines in court its just a matter of time until darkness falls on it. If that happens I have no doubt we'll be building lines in million dollar neighbrhood's.

Hey Bob, my place in No VA looks about the same, including the same two foot drifts on top my deck handrails. First a blizzard two weeks ago, then a bigger blizzard a few days ago, both followed by huge amounts of work digging out. With 30-40 inches on my roof, a half day shoveling off my roof trying not to slide off with the shovel, trees and limbs down, landscape smashed flat, a row of leyland cypress laid down with root balls out. Power on and off. Streets in the neighborhoods not plowed at all for 5-6 days. And now a near white out blizzard this morning with high winds. Woken up with big things falling on my roof out of the trees. I have a new plan of attack. I am not going back outside for anything (unless I have to start the generator again). I figure I have enough food and liquor for a month or so. I'm closing the curtains, putting on Jimmy Buffet sun and sand music and just relax and imagine I'm in the islands somewhere. This sh!t will eventually melt in the Spring. Instead of raising the flag on Iwo, this now looks like guys struggling with a big snow shovel. LOL

Ah, forecasters screwed us again. About 3" then another 1+" later overnight. Schools all closed, then the sun came out, Felt kinda stupid for closing. Now we got high winds (30 mph gusts) and they still have Storm warnings up.
Guess they are trying to justify their forecast for 6-10" of snow here....
Ready for Spring any time now.

Yea they talked it up here really big. Heck the snow we had a month ago was worse. We might have 4-5" and the winds made some 2' high drifts but thats all. Road is clear, sun is out, and everthing has closed. Still windy and around 22 or so. I'm off today for lack of construction work so I gotta clean the house. Detroit City Cowboy friend might be stayin Thurs night.

I finally have power again!!! When I came home from work last night, I saw an Allegheny Power truck sitting at the end of my road...but nobody was in it. And there were a couple Allegheny Power trucks and an Asplundh tree cutting truck just down the road from my house. So I knew they were working. However, the way the wires run out there, they weren't directly working on our line. We are on a short spur that only powers 3 homes, then there is a main line on another set of poles up on the hill in the field that parallels our line and feeds the folks down the road from us. Well, they were working on that main line and not directly working on ours. So we were a little hopeful, but also...as the night was getting later and later, we were a little discouraged. Plus, my dad had talked to those guys and they said that the lines were down in the creek and it wasn't looking good. My aunt even bought a bag of chocolate chip cookies at Panera Bread and gave to the guys to try and encourage them. Well, I had just run over to my house to turn off the kerosene heater for the night and to get a change of clothes for today and just as I locked and pulled the door shut, the lamp turned on. WOOOHOOOO!!!! That was about 8:20 or so. So then began the process of getting the water turned back on and air purged, fridge re-loaded, etc., etc. And my furnace must have run all night long to get that place warmed back up. It was still cold in there when I went to bed...but let me tell you...it was so nice to sleep in my own bed again rather than a couch.

I saw on the news last night that we (Pittsburgh, PA area) have basically 30" in the month of Feb so far...an all time record. It didn't really snow last week...I even rode the bike to work a couple days...so that is essentially from this storm and the continuing snow that is still falling now. We're pretty much dug out and the roads are pretty good. But they got slippery again last night and this morning because they got snow-covered again. As bad as it is here, I also saw on the news that the Philly and Eastern MD areas got about 65" of snow from this storm. Can you imagine that?? 5 1/2 feet!!!! You can shovel it, but where do you put it...you would have to practically lift it over your head to dump it!!! That would be something to see.
