Hi guys.
I found rhe misfiring on cyl 1 &5 being plugged jets. Replaced with .38 and she doesn't backfire! Even with new exhaust of Cobra 6 into 6

However, I'm dumb and didn't mark the push pull cables on throttle. I've tried tweaking all day, getting RPM from 2k to 500 to 2.5 to 1k with no throttle snap back...I'm all over!

Any throttle strategies to set the big girl back on track? Also it feels like my idle adj screw is doing nothing in or out

It’s easy to get the cables wedged in the air box when reinstalling it. I’d take off the tank and check that everything is free.

i agree the throttle cables can go on the wrong side of the front right air tube. if thats the case and the throttle cables are indeed on the front of that tube then you need to remove the air box and get those cables behind the front tube.  ask me how i know. iv'e done it myself first time i reinstalled the air box. throttle was tight and would not go back.

I recently had mine off while I was rebuilding my carbs. Definitely need to get the cables set before putting the tank on and make sure that the throttle snaps back at full lock left and right. I thought I had mine set perfectly and then out everything back together and found that the throttle would go back slowly at full lock to the right. Luckily I had enough slack on the bar to let it out.

The push and pull cables are not pinched by air box nor gas tank. I can't seem to even replicate a drop in idle RPM today...still sitting about 2.2k.

Could this be something fixed by carb synch? All but one pilot screw for 38s out one 3/4 turn. Cyl 6 pilot screw is stuck, heat and a dremel cut only mov3d it .5 turn. Idle adjustment screw in or out doesn't change idle at all...just stuck at 2.2k

Is you choke open? Also are you saying you have some carbs with a 38 and some with a stock 35?

Choke isn't open,  took covers off to ensure Choke isn't engaged. I replaced ALL slow jets with 38s.

I believe if the carbs are very much out of sync, the idle could stay high.

There is a carb sync process in the Service Manual using vacuum gauges.

I've done it with a Twin-Max, which is a lot of back and forth, unhook and re-hook tubes, but works.

Digi-Sync is the best.

If you cannot find any physical reason of the cables not working correctly, or the idle set screw is not working correctly, then my guess would be carb sync.

Make sure all 6 carbs Starter Valve Sets located on each carb is operating correctly when pushing the Enrichment Lever (choke) ALL the way down and when releasing.

While I'm not sure it would cause high idle, make sure your carbs and air box tubes are set right.  I do it by using a flashlight and looking from one side looking at the other back side. Check all 6.

I've caught improper installs that way.

Another concern could be the air cut off tubes on each carb.

Did you do a de-smog?

The movement of the throttle cables can also be hindered if the cables are twisted or pinched.  It is a long shot as one probably would've noticed that but be sure.

I'm just going to add that the throttle end of the cables can get bound up also.

Do you have stock exhaust? Going with bigger slow jets, may need to adjust mixture screw. That could cause the higher idle.

Sorry, been a minute!

I have desmogged the bike and replaced most lines, plugs, o-rings.

I do have Cobra 6 into 6 on now without constant decel popping.

I did double check airbox and will double check cables at handlebars this weekend.

I did replace all slow jets to .38s after finding 2 plugged .35s seeming to cause my issues.

I currently have the pilots out 1.75 turns and may play with that a bit more. See if applying choke when warm decreases idle and if it is just too lean. I have spoken with a local mechanic for a carb synch as I have desmogged, replaced exhaust, slows, and lines all without a synch yet...just hoping to find all the things I can do before bringing it in and getting charged to figure out what else I have missed!

Will report back hopefully this weekend, if this New England rain ever wants to stop this week...

Not sure what hes going to charge you but if you pick up a digisync and a color tune you can easily set the mixer and sync yourself for about $300.

The mech I spoke with was quoting $200ish depending on what he saw. Will report back though!
