Just in case you might have wondered, it appears (from Downdetector) that Facebook is down world wide as of about 30 minutes ago.

I think it's something with their login systems, it's effecting all Meta products, Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Whatsapp and all 4 people who use Threads...

Always have backup means of communications. Always.

Yes always have backup.   Facebook is now back.

For me, it's not a means to communicate but sort of like a news feed, especially for the area in which I live.

There is a weekly newspaper available in Newberry, SC but it's weekly.   Seeing events in the area is a little easier using Facebook although they are at times "delayed".

Yes.  Our small town used to mail a newsletter about events, garbage collection, meetings, etc.  That is now the town FB page.  Church, Boy Scout troop, VFW, etc. use FB instead of paper mail.  For us, it is more than entertainment.

Sadly, it's also displacing legacy forums such as this very one. I don't know how to stop it other than embrace it and continue to patronize the legacy ones I care about, hate that we're putting all our eggs in one basket but I definitely understand the draw...
