Ride Safe, Be Kind

Hi All,

Time and money have finally converged and it's time for the long awaited refresh on my bike.  I want to go with hard bags this time.  I'm looking at the tsukayu "Strong" or "Jumbo Strong" bags.  Does anyone have any knowledge as to whether either will fit inside the Saddle Bag Rail pictured here? https://www.ebay.com/itm/325064015285?itmmeta=01HTZ7BREA1G4007N5YCR4KB1A&hash=item4baf533db5:g:LRgAAOSw6ZdjU5O6&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8LYvAcW1QFQtDqNrD8JTY76hEmzsklzIZ%2FJNlhfLu5Z%2BBVkhsbpjYXloLhZuJzn%2BNx3ifrgCUhS0V0%2F%2BtISCFiAqkjTuRUPTw38pne99OB0fPfXNKiSvJO6MzkRVS6hSTBSAql3UkQ4k%2BpT%2BzGAri2ol4ENRgyjz7xk3SQt4iYMU9fFm1dygM7h6PvUhfnFp15lIdrp7rNL7KdT9Tfxa9ZnXTw%2FbX7%2BaIL%2FQ1bOwIcFkGfDDNjXDf4LaXaQ%2BPlJO9Mx7gc5rhybwFLSl2MLDOVFLCxM5tyiaqvbqmEy2Z7fY7EFbu5X5v9Gd70UuJc%2B7QQ%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBMooev59dj  If not, can anyone recommend a set that would? The stock ones are stupid expensive, so I'm looking to go aftermarket.  A ready to paint option would be good as I'm repainting the whole bike a different color.

Ride Safe,

thanks!  I remember seeing his spacer but In had forgotten which bags he used.  His were Mustangs, which are the same as Tsykara, so it should work.

i looked at Strongs/Jumbos for my wife's 1100 Yamaha Vstar Custom twin.  I seem to recall they got good reviews.  I also seem to recall they (and other) aftermarket hard bags (ABS or fiberglass) being designed for universal fit to many bikes, often did not mount as tight to the bike as you would like (not a great look).  This may be remedied by diddling the mount hardware, but maybe not.

But I chose the OE Yamaha bags which were sturdy and well made and mounted easily with hardware (after I had them painted to match the bike).  They did not match so well with the bobbed rear fender, but you can't have everything.  These were ABS (as I recall) and so much lighter than fiberglass.  I also really liked the way they were hinged on the outside, so the lids were not hitting the bike, or flopping around like Interstate bags on cables.

Click "view image" to reduce size.

Short, but fat.  And cleared the aftermarket exhaust. Signals were in the aftermarket LED taillight.

I've had the Jumbo Strong on mine for 3 yrs and I am happy with them. As far as fitting in the guards I have no idea. I used their universal fit brackets. They are kind of like a z bracket. I bought a quick release mount but it didn't work because of the recess on the back of the bag.

I had tsukayu bags on my first Valkyrie, great bags, but wasn’t terribly impressed with the stock hardware that came with them so I made my own brackets. I also managed to make a set of oem Honda bag rails work with them following BFs spacer write up. If I remember correctly, I needed to space the back out by 1” on each side and 1/2” at the front where they fastened to the passenger footpeg bracket. Haven’t got a Photobucket account anymore so can’t post pics here, but find me on Facebook and I’ll gladly share pics with you. Nick Jopson.

Corbins were expensive but were great bags, strong, well made and never had a problem. The mounting hardware is good also, it positioned the bags at the perfect location.

On my 14 valk I also bought a pair of the Corbins and they are great.
