At my deer lease in Jarrell Tx. Hunting ferrel hogs. This morning had turkeys and 4 deer come in but no hogs.... then just a little while ago this afternoon.....
I couldnt believe it. Runded the corner and turkeys were at the feeder. Then I saw a tail swish behind the feeder. Got down on the ground and got my binocs out and it was a pretty good size black hog. Tried to freehand but just couldnt keep crosshair on him. About 100 yds. Belly crawled about 20 yds to a small tree and stood up to rest on a limb just as he came out in the sunlight. Yep...its a hog. Shot him and he was screaming and thrashing trying to get up and I thought " I aint chasing his butt through the brush.....shot him again. That did it

What caliber rifle were you using? I have never been feral hog hunting, but do love some pork. ;-)
I was at a shooting range in low country NC near here, and the guy told us if a hog ran out feel free to shoot it. They have too many I suppose.

GREAT story.  The hole digging squirrels in my neighborhood run for their lives when a window is opened in my house. Kinda spoils the fun. |

Wild hogs are not native to North America. If they are not, they should be eligible for license free harvesting year round.

Same in Texas. You dont even have to have a hunting license to hunt feral hogs. There are way too many in Texas. My son is on a 5000 acre ranch hunting lease in the Del Rio Texas area. Couple years ago they hired a helicopter for 4 hrs to hunt hogs. In preperation he called the Texas Parks and Wildlife office for the area and asked if it was ok to hunt hogs from a helicopter. The game warden said yes and to please kill as many as you can. They killed 39 hogs |

The lease I am on we kill around 60 feral hogs a year between hunting and trapping them. They are very destructive. They dig big holes in the ground in search of grubs. Farmers and ranchers hate em

Hogs are moving into Minnesota from Canada. They are not going to let us hunt them. The reason they give is it only just educates them. They plan on trapping or poisoning them.

Any high powered rifle or if up close a shotun will work. Sometimes I use a AR15 223 caliber but my favorite bad dude hunting rifle is my 46 yr old 270 caliber Remington BDL. Very accurate gun. |

Damn good eating. Guys I worked for hunted Russian boars on a reserve in Tennesse. I would love to hunt. I just bought a Henry 9mm rifle. I have not even had time to shoot it as of yet. It joins my other two Henry rifles.  da prez |

congrats on getting the hog, pork is GOOD...
I just wish canadian geese could shoot at will here in WI where I live. There is about 500 or so daily in my small town down at the small lake, tons of poo all over the grassy areas and into the small lake is not good. Just yesterday, we live about 1/2 mile from downtown, 2 canadian geese got pretty darn close to us in our backyard kept walking closer and closer into my neighbors backyard coming at us. Pretty curious critters until they flew away getting too close to us for comfort. Was about ready to get out the .22 but do not care for geese meat.

Canadian geese are a p.i.t.a. and protected around here. Every patch of open field gets swarmed by them and they dump anywhere and everywhere they please. If there’s a walking path near an open field their feces are there too and you need to tiptoe or hopscotch around it. Soccer, football, baseball fields are covered in their droppings as are open grassy areas in parks and playgrounds, even some basketball courts as well if they are near an open field. |

There are a couple businesses around…one called Geese Police I think, that uses a dog to help clear fields and act as a deterrent. Years ago some places would put up painted wood cutouts on a swivel that spun around as the wind blew but I don’t think that worked well. I think someone has a hawk or falcon which they let loose to fly around to act as a deterrent. They were used on boardwalks for awhile to keep the gulls at a distance. The rules/law pertaining to their protection I don’t remember exactly but they can’t be physically harmed. If you find a nest though, it’s not allowed to break the eggs, but you can pick them up, shake them to destroy the inside and return them to the nest. |

Well my pest are rabbits, groundhogs and ground squirrels. A Turkish made Hatsan .177 air rifle does rabbits really good. Groundhog gets the scoped Ruger .22 or the 870 combo long barrel with a full choke in place. Ground squirrels get the Ruger also. I take them down the road .2 a mile and lay them out for my local redtail hawk to take care of. For 2 legged, I got a 5.62 and a tractor with a bucket.  |

This is why people hate hogs. This damage was done at my sons house in Hempstead Tx out in the country side. They were gone for the weekend. His fertilized yard attracts grubs and the hogs love them....  |
