Since gas is almost $6 a gallon here and both my 64 F250 and my hotrod 50 Chevy get single digit mileage, I started looking for a cheap run-around car with A/C for the upcoming summer.  I picked up this little guy for $3k.  Its a 2004 Mini Cooper S with the supercharger and a six speed manual.  This car is a hoot and man can it corner!  I've never been a huge front wheel drive fan but this could make me a believer.  Also, it gets 38mpg!

I have newer and older Mini Coopers all over my neighborhood.

Friends who live over behind me have 3, including an old red one that they keep in a small wood shed in their backyard, just drive around the yard and up the ramp.  I have no idea how the driver gets out of the car.  Fred is too old to drive anymore, but his wife Betsey is hell on wheels.   Grin

They look fun to drive to me.   cooldude

163 HP/ 155Lb/Ft but in a car that only weighs 2500 pounds it's a lot of fun.  About $500 worth of mods can put it north of 250 HP.

If you've ever driven an old VW Bug, it feels a lot like that but with power and handling.  Even if the MPG dropped to 25, it would still be a pretty good improvement over my truck's 8mpg!

Looks like a good buy that will pay you back in fuel savings.  The fun factor is a plus for sure!

How many miles? They are great with anything below 80k after that not so much. Cooling system can start to give problems since there are a few main hoses that are plastic and tend to go. The belt tensioner is a bear and watch the oil also. The temp gauge usually does not  work so well so when the hoses go they are not reflected on the temp till usually its to late.

They do drive well and are a blast to drive, though.

manual transmissions are fun. It's one reason why we still have the 2000 VW New Beetle - the 5 speed manual (car was originally a 4 speed automatic - crapped out at 252,000 miles ) . Fuel mileage went from 38 to 45+ for the driving I was doing at that time. Recently had new struts and control arms on the front end - made the car FUN again Smiley .

finding any car in that good of body shape for only 3K is a steal nowadays.

used car and truck pricing is still too insanely high making it almost impossible to find a good deal anymore , you done good.
