You are riding back from Marseille heading for home in Paris, 7 hours of serene travel on the highway (500 miles), the weather is fine, it's friday 5 pm and in the traffic jam everybody wants to come back home, in 30 mn you'll be home

unless a car suddenly wants to step in the left lane you are already in.

The car hits you on the right side, the bike goes flat on the left side and you are sliding too on your butt and on the right side.
Thanks to the BMW Tourshell Jacket, thanks to the Dainese Smart Jacket (airbag), nothing but scratches on your buttock. Fortunately the cars behind did stop, you are lucky the drivers were not checking their mails as they constantly do.

The bike is not OK, the head cylinder moved backwards.
Bought the Valk in 2014, rode 231 000 km (143536 mls), changed the clutch (142274 mls) last year and last month changed the alternator (1715 $).

Sorry for your troubles Ledany.

Did the driver that hit you stop?  Help?

I really hate heavy traffic.  It brings out the aggression and impatience in drivers (with predictable results).

Around here (in the US), more insurance companies are totaling vehicles (calling the results of the accident a total loss of the vehicle, rather than repairing it) involved in accidents because the costs of all the parts and labor for repair are skyrocketing (and so are insurance premiums).

I was in Paris once, but I never left the airport.   Smiley

I looked up "dies irae".......(literally, Day of Wrath) and a Latin hymn sung in a Mass for the dead.

I bought last week a Goldwing Bagger DCT, so pretty (frequently complimented as if I was the father  Grin)
I love the DCT, so elaborate and easy to use. I do appreciate the brakes which are efficient at last (though I drive very carefully in the trafic jam for the time being, don't no why  Grin), the headlights, the electric windscreen. The tires are too big (130 front, 200 rear), the engine is warmer than the one on the Valk (I guess that the cooling system on the Valk is more efficient) and if the engine is more powerful the bike is also heavier : I'm very focused when I U-turn ! Undecided
After 1000 mls I understand that you have two driving modes : "Tourer" and you are not in a hurry / "Sport" and you must be younger than what you actually are  Wink

Awesome.   cooldude

I went in "sport mode" just yesterday.  I had to pee, and I went real fast to find a spot to do so.   Grin

Robert, As you known it's my second chrome cover !  Grin

I was a convinced beemer (K100, R1100R, K1200R, K1200GT, R1200 GSLC) but I discovered the Honda world (231 000 km/135,500 mls with the Valk 2014), the reliability, and the low maintenance costs (BMW : 98$/h ; Honda : 66$/h) though the maintenance of the Bagger DCT will be more expensive (the tires are unusefully big, 130 front, 200 rear).

The Bagger DCT has a better mpg ratio than the Valk but is much slower : 180 km/h-112 mls/h max and this is not enough in our old countries  Grin

Wow you must stand out like a sore thumb with a Honda bagger.  Shocked

All the BMW guys must think you lost your mind or money  Grin

Someone probably makes a limiter delete, that eliminates the bike from going faster at top end.

Yes Robert, you can delete the limiter (500 $ or so) but times have changed ; I'm getting old and not so eager to compete on the road with the other users (knowing an ordinary MT-07 is faster 2funny)

People here drive obviously more slowly (watching TV, scrolling on the phone  crazy2) and I've realized ten years ago riding the R1200 GS LC how dangerous it is to use the full power of a modern bike on an everyday basis.

The wingers here worry if deleting the limiter would havoc the DCT ; I'm sure you have the answer Robert !  coolsmiley

Didn't even consider the DCT might have issues with the removal of the speed stop in relation to the shifting, but found this information and the  Goldwings site after you made me curious. I also was looking and saw where some having to relearn figure 8s and U turns because of the DCT. They said  slow speed maneuvers were different and the guy even laid the bike down once.

Was thinking of getting a Wing but the Valk looks and works like new still with only about 40K miles on it and I don't ride as much as before. I'm on the bike everyday but just not as far. Seems longer trips involve the wife and since I bought a convertible, which she prefers we wind up taking that.

But when we go out to dinner locally we will take the Valk since its much easier to park and avoid traffic .

Nice to hear the drivers here are about the same as your neck of the woods. I think the best one I saw was a guy driving with a dog in his lap, while he was eating and drinking while on the phone.  Angry

Did you really say the Wing is slower than the Valk?

Information below,

The SpeedoHealer two important points...

Firstly, it doesn't remove the speed limiter, it just defers it. It can shift it from say 180kph to just over 200kph. It does this by applying an extra correction above a certain speed. Say above 170kph, it adjusts the rear wheel speed sensor pulses down by 14%. And yes, the speedo goes back down as you're accelerating. Then the speedo will climb until about 180kph when the bikes limiter cuts in. But you're actually doing 205kph. Better than nothing but not as good as a re-flash.

Secondly, there are issues if using it to do normal speedo corrections on a DCT. Anything more than 2.5% correction upsets the TCM and the bike won't shift out of first gear. The speed limiter thing works ok on DCTs because you're already in high gears by then.

Merci Robert !  cooldude

For what I understand, I'll keep the bike stock as it is ; and if ever I want to crazy on the road  Roll Eyes, I'll look for the new Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT which is so much fun to ride for short distances.
