No VA

I could have used it already a few days, but the outdoor condenser was covered for the winter and I didn't want all the loads of nasty pollen from my 5 big oaks going down inside it.  It's a PITA to pull the top grill and clean it out.  (The way you don't have an accident with a covered condenser is to turn the power off to it on the panel, so a mistake at the thermostat can't blow it up).

It's almost 90 out there and nice and cool upstairs now.  I needed to make sure it was working sometime; it should be, it was brand new 2 years ago.  And the pollen is nearly (but not quite) finished.  Before uncovering the condenser, I was on my roof blowing out my two ridge vents full of pollen.  I hate that crap.

Two weeks of NoVA Spring is about par for the course.  Cold all winter, real nice for a week or two, then hot and sh!tty until falltime.

Because I live in a three level split, there can be a 20 degree difference between the basement (finished living room) and the upstairs bedrooms (heat rises you know).  So I stuck a small unit in my bedroom window (110, not 220), close the door, and that small unit makes the bedroom nice and cool for sleeping without having to crank the whole house on the central AC.  At night, the central gets set up to higher temp, and the bedroom unit goes on low all night.  In the morning, the bedroom unit goes off and central gets turned down.  Works like a charm.

One way to not have to de-winterize your HVAC is to live in The Republic of Texas....

This is my downstairs unit, upstairs would likely be similar but I'm too lazy to look up both:

The pollen is picking up here. We’ve had a couple days where temps went into upper 80’s. Had the windows slightly open but not really enough to let pollen in. A/C was on over night a couple times. To get the house cooled down to a nice sleep temp. Today temp is now 51 and heat is back on.

We are still getting frost in the mornings.  According to weather folks we may have a trace to 1" of white on the ground come Sunday morning.  Haven't really opened up the house to blow out the stale winter air yet.  So, no need to AC yet.

I fact the heater is running right now.

I started with the A/C couple weeks ago. I also have the furnace kick on when it gets too cool - often both in the same day....
