Just floating this idea Rhonda and I had,

9th Annual Mothman Festival Scheduled for September 18-19, 2010

We were thinking that the Mothman Festival may be a good reason for a ride???  It was discussed last year but it didn't happen, so we thought, start planning earlier and see if anyone was interested.

Possible  plan would be:     Arrive in Huntington, WV on Friday evening, Sept. 17th, next day I will lead a ride to Pt Pleasant, WV to attend the 9th annual Mothman Festival. After a day of riding and partying with the Mothman we will return to the Huntington area for a catered pig roast ( Rhonda will fill you in with details a little later ). Next day, Sunday the 19th everyone heads for home.  If we have enough interest we will see about a block of rooms at a good price. We will need to get a rough number before we can start working on the details.  Please let us know if you think this would be a good idea. We have a lot of good riding roads in the area and who knows, we may even see the MOTHMAN....................    Shocked

K, I got one question.  What, pray tell, is the Mothman Festival?

I haven't read about the Mothman yet, but I like the WV roads idea. Will we cross "the bridge"?  Shocked

Hey Duffy,  if you come north on I-81 and then north on I-77 you can get on US 19 at Beckley and cross "The Bridge".  After crossing the bridge a great ride would be turn west on US 60 just north of the bridge and follow it down Gauley MTN all the way to Huntington.....

The Tri-state ride in is being planned that same weekend.  The three states involved in that event are Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan.

The planners of that ride have been kind enough at our request to hold off on publicizing their ride in until the Spring.  Doc Moose has given up the weekend he would normally hold the Covered Bridge Ride in deference to his participation in the Tri-State Ride In.

The Tri-State ride in will take place in Ohio and I have a suspicion that a lot of VRCC members will want to be there.

I wouldn't try to tell anyone NOT to schedule a ride, but I am trying to clearly say that if this ride is scheduled on this weekend many VRCC members will likely find themselves greatly conflicted over which ride in to attend.

That's the weekend of the festival and I'm pretty sure I could'nt talk them into changing the dates of it with folks from all over the country going to it. Seems to me a simple PM or e-mail to three people would have worked much better than the blood red NO NO . First I heard of another ride on this weekend was tonight in this thread. I go to CBR , I go to Cheaha I've been to 4 InZanes, DOTS and Dragons On The Beach however I've never seen any of the folks that put these rides on come to share the wind with us with the exception of you and Lori at The Blue Gray Ride .

Our intention is not to draw anyone from any official VRCC ride. But, as this is always the weekend for the Mothman Festival and the weekend Rhonda's party is schduled for we don't have the option of choosing another weekend. We will not be offended if anyone or everyone chooses to go to Ohio, I wish we could do both.  There are other rides going on this weekend as well, Delmarva for example, we don't expect a very large turnout anyway so I hope both rides can continue without negatively affecting the other. If we don't just go ahead and do the Mothman Festival we will never get to do it as this is the weekend it is always scheduled for.

If the Mothman ride doesn't happen Im still partying!!!!  Brian and I have discussed doing a ride since Steve passed away and this year just happen to be the year we decided plus it happen to be the same day as by party. As Brian said I don't expect everyone to come but if you do you will love the roads and the road out to my party is a great curvy road.

I'm going up there (Lewisburg) anyhow second week of October,  but if I can, I'm going up for
this too... I'll try to hook up with Joe and anyone else from anywhere near here... 3fanforlife
knows some good back roads to get there... next time I go to WV on a Valkyrie I plan to take
52 instead of 77 through the tunnels, he told me 52 is a great road... leaving out of SC and
taking 81 out of Johnson City is a natural way to get to WV...

77 through the tunnels is fun on a bike (or a car), but I hear the police are really on the hunt
for speeders through there...

We rode up there a couple of years ago, not for the festival but just to check the story out....very interesting events happen there...what was amazing was from the people that I talked to..they were more scare of the men in black that arrived after the sightings then they were of the mothman....there are a few museums to check out and a great park down by the river, with a wall mural that is outstanding.....count us in....

I understand this is a business for the owners and they expect to see money from the investment they put into the VRCC . I support this club and its vendors with the events I attend and products I buy. And as stated before I never heard anything about any other ride VRCC or otherwise on the weekend of The Mothman Festival until this thread.

Brian/Rhonda,
I guess this is in the early stages, but do you have any ideas on motels?  With the festival going on it may be a good idea to get rooms blocked or reserved ASAP.  I will get one reserved right away, and will be willing to split with someone.

Hey Terry, we are going to try to make a deal with either the days inn or red roof at Barboursville when we have an idea how many we are going to have. Joe, Norman, Highbinder and Lady Draco and a few others stayed there when they rode in for Steve's service in 2008. The Mothman festival will not affect room availability in B'ville as we will have about a 40 mile ride to Pt Pleasant on that Saturday morning.

SO does anybody know what's going on with the rides? I asked Doc Moose back in late Nov. about the date for the CBR so I could schedule vacation time, but now hear it's been canceled?  Is that right? So what's the deal about a Tri-State ride and when are the planners going to tell us about it?
I'm new so I really don't know how things work. I just want to ride with some other Valks. IF everybodys invited the Mothman Festival sounds good to me.
