Question: Why do you ride your bike?
It is my primary form of transportation.
I only ride on the weekends (with all my leathers so I look tough).
I would rather be riding my cycle, but the snow’s too deep right now.
If I’m by myself I’m on my cycle.
What else is there to drive?

The other day I was wondering if people NEED to ride their cycle, or if they chose to ride.

I knew a guy that only had a cycle for the longest time and for two winters that’s all he drove.  I saw him one year driving in two inches of snow, going 50mph!!

Strictly for pleasure now. But when I was much younger, in the early '70's, I rode year round to work. I think around 17 degrees F one day. Had to thaw out before I could raise my arm to punce the time clock...lol.

If I'm by myself I'm on my bike because it is my primary vehicle. I like it that way. I see it as function and fun.

It's my primary choice of mobility. Have 2 other choices if I need one. Like Hoser and Daniel, it's my therapy fix and most of the time I can't get enough........  Smiley

For pleasure only.  I've not got much pleasure lately, too cold and too snowy.

You didn't have a selection for me:

 * I put around 10,000 miles a year on the Valkyrie, look goofy with my britches tucked into my boots,
and like to drive my car a lot, even on nice days

I'm not sure about the looking good  part, but I ride mostly on weekends, for pleasure and definately away from Atlanta. Usually north toward the mountains.  Smiley

I only drive 4wheels if I have to get groceries on my way home from work or
if the weather is just too bad...slick roads, severe t-storms etc. I put more
miles on the Valk in a year than I do my truck and Jeep combined.

Mine is a pleasure craft.  In dry dock four to five months.  The remainder of the year; when I have the time and I'm in need of wind therapy.   Cool

My bike is for pleasure. The # of times that I have run any errands on my bike I imagine could be counted on one hand. With all of these kids around here if there is somewhere to go it seems that at least a few want to go as well. That's all right though. One day they will all be gone and I will wishing I had one or two to tag along. As far as work goes I have never ridden my bike to work. I would not want my bike on a construction site. Also when I leave to go to work I am pulling a trailer that you could easily fit eight Valkyries into. That trailer is loaded with tools and material that you could not begin to bring on a bike. I have friends that will haul or attempt to haul just about anything on there bike. Me I wouid rather use my pickup for hauling stuff and my bike for hauling me. The one thing that I can't understand is someone that has a bike only for transportation. I could not imagine riding to and from work five times a week and then leaving the bike sit over the weekend. There is a guy that lives a few houses from me that I have seen ride his bike to work day after day but I have never seen him ride for pleasure. Go figure.

Pleasure I guess. Every time I ride its a pleasure. I ride to my EMS work but not to my construction job. Definitly every weekend. Places I've seen, peaople I've met, and the things I have done make it all worth while. I wouldn't be here if I didn't have the bike.

I have other vehicles but if it is my choice I'll be riding. The valk get about three times the milage as the blazer and is much more fun to ride. The van is for momma and grandbaby. I'm riding if at all possible.

I guess you could say, mostly for pleasure.

I do ride to and from work, when the mood hits.  Best part about that is that it is bout 9 miles to get to work, and some days anywhere between 60 & 200 miles to get home  Wink

Evening 'mental-floss' rides, after a long day dealing with the mental midgets that make up the telecom industry, are always a possibility...  Once the chores are done, weekends find me headed no place in particular, unless there is some sort of VRCC gathering, then count me there.

So, any time on the Valk, 10 miles to 1000 miles, is pleasure  cooldude

I actually get more miles in on business that I do for pleasure.  On Thursday, I had a meeting in San Diego (325 miles from home), so I rode my Interstate.  I have a monthly meeting in Sacramento (300 miles from home), so I ride my bike to the meeting.  I live in San Luis Obispo.  I get the IRS reimbursement rate for personal vehicles at $0.50 per mile and get from 30-32 miles per gallon on the freeway at 70 mph.  The money from the mileage allows me to maintain the bike.

Of course, it is much more therapeutic to be riding my Valk than to be in a car.  I do ride for pleasure also and attended the last two InZane meets.

The weather in California allows me to ride almost all year.  I had to drive a car to Sacramento in December and January.

Have the pleasure of working for myself. So, if it's a sales call or small repair or errands to price a job or pick up small supplies, it's the Valk. Doing carpentry from the Valk would be tough so the Burb gets the call. Tomorrow I'll go to a job about 60 miles from the house to take a water sample. The homeowner is an avid rider. We talk bikes more than water. Thank God business has picked up lately which means more non-work rides. Course, anytime on the Valk is pleasure. Great to be able to mix the two. And even though Honda nixed the Valk, I thank them for giving it to us.
