I know we have a number of former servicemen in the ranks and thought this would be something of interest.

I have to admit my history knowledge of Ft. Hancock is limited but I pick up on stuff along the way.

Here’s a good little article of how this was the last resort for an attack.

Interesting. I was active duty during the Cold War. I retired from active duty in April 2000. I was Air Force and worked nukes several times during my career. Here's a toast to all those who didn't make it home on this Memorial Day weekend. Some of whom I served with. Cry

 cheers

I don't remember that event.  And yes I was on active duty in 1970 either at the Nuclear Power School at Bainbridge, MD or a Windsor Locks, CT for S1C Prototype Training.  You think I would remember this event.  Must have been distracted or its old age.

Regrading Tomorrow - Memorial Day, I did have a road trip with some riding friends several years ago and we went to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and to Arlington and the Vietnam Memorial.  One of my friends, Henry, was in Vietnam (I was safely in the US Navy).  My other friend, who knew Henry better, said that Henry had never been go the "Wall".  So, we made sure that, if he wanted he could visit.  He did.  I was glad to see him make the trip.  Maybe it closes some old wounds.

For tomorrow

And from that trip I mentioned above, a video I made from the pictures taken.

My best friend was in the Navy (66-70). His first station was as a 50 cal foredeck gunner on a 50’ gunboat in the Mekong delta. Came home with two Purple Hearts. I was safely in the Air Force with a support function for Titan II ICBMs in Kansas.

That was a good video and the music fit in nice.  cooldude

My son and his girlfriend live in Arlington now and a trip to there is definitely on the list of things to do. On our last trip we went to the Jefferson Memorial and it was amazing, maybe humbling is a better word to use. Thanks for sharing.  cooldude
