For those that have done this install....
Do you need to desmog the bike in order to install this vacuum cruise control system?
Has anyone installed it on a bike without removing the smog tubing and PAIR valve and can offer any advice?
Thanks for your input.

I think you do not need to desmog to install the cruize. Some have used the extra space to install a vacume tube to work with the cruize, but there is a number of other locations to install that. I would look in the archives for audiovox install for ideas and see how others have done it. I don't have any experience installing one, but MANY have

I installed the vacuum cannister on my Interstate on the left radiator bracket under the pod. On my wife's standard, I put the canister in an opening sort of underneath the tank where the 2 tubes exit the bottom of the air box. I used 3 cylinders to check valves for vacuum supply.

The Valk doesn't need a vac canister. Do a search, you'll find plenty of us who have posted to this effect. If you have a canister using only one port, that's 2 extra fittings and the threaded fittings in the PVC. Might as well just use another port or two and get rid of the canister. I doubt there's a reliability difference. As insurance, I keep a Harbor Freight 8" angled needle nose pliers in the saddle bag. I can reach all the vac lines/ports, in addition to fuel lines on the side of the road without removing the tank etc. I use 3 ports, and she works flawlessly under all conditions.

John,
I just installed one on my I/S and I didn't do the desmog but wish I would have. It would have given me a whole bunch more room to work and cleaned out a bunch of useless hoses.

I pulled the bolt depicted in the following photo to install the bracket for the cable on the audiovox unit. http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/cruise_files/bolt01b.jpgThe bolt is outboard of the Pair Check Valve case (Reed valves) on on NON desmogged bike. When I pulled the bolt it had oil on the tip and the bolt hole in the engine case seems to be open to the engine. This bolt seems to serve as an oil plug and Im wondering if I can just set the washer then bracket then bolt or does this connection need to be liquid tight?

Reinstall the bolt with 2 crush washers, one on each side of the bracket to be on the safe side.
