Had to make the decision to let our Yorkie be relieved of her struggle. I wanted her to go in her sleep, I didn’t want to intervene but that was not to be. Certain animals are just special with dogs being my weak spot. I never call them pets, they are faithful companions no matter what else is going on in life.

It's hard to let them go.   I know first hand.  But what's even worse is to let them live in pain.   Had to let Bowser go this past Spring.    Cry
Sorry about your loss.

Sorry to read of your loss.  Pets are true blue friends for life.  I've shed many tears putting them down.

Thanks for everyones sympathy and kind remarks. One of the more sadder aspects is that she will probably be our last dog. She chose us over 12 years ago by just showing up in our yard while we already had a 14 year old dog. I never say never coolsmiley but it would a really special circumstance for us to embrace another dog at this stage of our lives.

Everything I’ll say will sound wrong but it’s not meant that way.
I feel bad for you knowing the feeling you have. My dog wagging her tail one second to gone the next without warning. Her and I didn’t even like each other. She alway had to be the boss even biting me a few times in her 14 years. Probably my fault as I’m not a dog whisperer and I got her for my son, not me. She always hung around me though. When she passed, I didn’t leave the house for a week. It absolutely floored me … which is the very reason I would never have another dog. The freedom is nice not having to get home to let the dog out or finding someone to take care of her while we’re gone.
Anyway, condolences to you…

I very much understand your post and I share many of your emotions. I think SmokinJoe has experienced the same loss and no longer desires to have a K9 companion. I’m kinda hoping my son will get a dog for his kids as they are now 8 and 4 and then we might get to “puppy sit” from time to time. At any rate it’s an adjustment to not have someone waiting on you to come home.

That's why a cat is a  bikers friend.. smitten
You  can set out all the  food give them a box.

My wife had cats.  Lots of cats. Usually 2-3 at a time, mostly from shelters

Some were OK, some were not.

The first two were purchased purebred Himalayan kittens.

The male turned into a giant named Fat Boy (for a reason) and he was a proud character.  He didn't like being manhandled (pointy teeth trained you not to), but if he felt like it, he'd get on your lap for a little ear rubbing and light petting.  He lived for a very long time.

His coat was so thick, he was miserable in hot summers (still wanted to be outside all the time), so the wife got a set of good clippers and shaved him down, except for his face, end of tail, and paws.  It make him look like a miniature lion, and quite comical.  A little neighbor girl came by one day and studied him for a while, and then asked.... is that some kind of bunny rabbit?   Grin

His little sister was brain damaged (or something) and liked no one.  The litter box was always in the basement utility room, with all the shoes, boots and coats.  That cat would sh!t in one of my shoes, just to piss me off (just mine, never the wife's).  It worked.   tickedoff 2funny

On the subject of cats, I’ve seen a good number of dogs on bikes but never a cat, unless the the bike was stationary and had a comfy looking seat. cooldude

Dogs strive to please you.  Cats do not.  That is why they are not "trained" as easily.

I am a cat person but I have also had pet dogs at some times.

That has been my experience too, I was just trying to make it motorcycle related! Grin

LOL!  Yes, I can imagine that if I tried to put my cat on the motorcycle she would be about as comfortable as I am in the bitch position but she would exit much more quickly.   Wink

wife wants a cat, but she is allergic to most of them, cats and dogs, pretty bad.   Cats are much easier to take care of if having to go on vacation or away for more than a day.  Been 'just thinking' of getting a larger cat, say a mix maine coon, since think would be cool to go on walks (on a leash more than likely) if the cat allows it.   If dogs can be on leashes, why not some types of cats as well?

Never seen a cat on a leash before going on walks with owners though personally in my life?

Honestly, I have seen a few cats that ride motos with their owners.
And YES on the fuel tank , with a safety harness ! Some on the back seat in a crate like  a  pup..
There was a famous on  ADV a Siamese that cat traveled all over the USA with it's owner.
I even saw a Savahanna sitting on the back seat with doggles and a harness...

It all depends on the cat. Just like a dog .. If they have the right mind set , and the want ..
They too will love to ride
