I have a 2003 Std Valk with a little more than 17k miles. When draining the dragon snot, I noticed some kind of leak at the back of the motor. The liquid I removed (about 1 or 2 teaspoonfuls) seemed clear and smelled like brake fluid. I noticed my clutch resevor was a little low and re-filled it not too long ago. When I cleaned out the drain tube, I wiped off the back of the motor to see if it was still leaking. I have since put on about 60 miles and checked and there is a film on the motor again. Looking at the Honda service manual, it looks like the only thing at the back of the motor is the Clutch Slave Cylinder. I've been watching the tech board for a little more than a year - shortly after purchasing the bike, and do not recall anything being said about this subject. Could this be my leak and is this a common problem? Thanks all for your help. Dan

Check the micro fische...theres at least one oil seal just behind the cover where the clutch hydraulic line is attached, doesnt look that hard to change, maybe someone that has done a clutch will answer up, but looks straightforward to me, but no I dont think this is a common problem

It could be... check the easy stuff first though. Is the bleeder (#10) for the clutch good and snug? Then... see if you have a leak around #12/13

Thanks all, I went out and looked again and checked to see if the bleeder valve was tight - it was. I checked the bolt that goes through 12 and 14 it also was tight. I checked the bolts that hold the clutch slave cylinder and they were also tight. This time when i was looking around, I removed the vacuum tank and could see much better. I do not see where anything looks like it has any fresh leaking, so possibly I did not wipe the cover as well as I thought. I will monitor the cover and see if there is anything new happening. I'll be out of town for the next couple of weekends, so it will be awhile before I can put some miles on the big girl. Again thanks for you help, and I really apprciate the tech area, I monitor it daily and have picked up a quite a few ideas and things to watch for on my dream bike.

The seals are available and much cheaper than a new slave unit. If you haven't flushed out the hydraulics, do that first. Get a MityVac or similar vacuum bleeder. Suck out all the old fluid and then refill with denatured alcohol. Suck that through and then repeat with new DOT4 fluid. This might remove a bit of dirt and the new fluid might rejuvenate the seals. A cheap fix before buying new parts.

Well you have a few lines (hoses) that hang down below the motor and although normally plugged could be missing the plug and spewing that crud and collecting on the rearward parts of the motor.

Isn't there a pin in there that could use some grease to keep it from squeeling? I tried to get in there last spring but seem to be under tension. Is there a way to get it apart? Maybe drain the clutch fluid?

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll watch to ensure it is leaking and if it is, I'll flush out the lines, and refill and see if that helps. The person I purchased the bike from had the fluids, including the brakes and clutch flushed out at about 12k. But that would be the least expensive and easiest to start with. Again, Thanks.

On my 01 under warranty they had to replace the slave cylinder.
