Has anybody attempted to buff out scratches on a windshield?
Or know if it can be done?

Kinda like on headlight covers on cars nowadays!

My shield has just normal "wear" scratches from 25yrs of use. It's been "custom fit" over the years since I've had it (cut down on top, extended on the bottom, headlight hole enlarged) and I'd hate to start over.

Don’t try it if it’s OEM Honda. If it’s a Clearview or other made out of plexiglass then it’s easy to buff out scratches but go slow and easy

I did my Clearview to get some deep scratches out.
Started with 80 grit sandpaper and worked my way up to polish..  It is a long process and you need to be careful.
