Started watching the NFL again. These Refs throw flags like they are getting paid extra for each one. A few of the penalties deserve to be strictly enforced. Face mask, roughing the QB or kicker but some of the calls are getting to be a royal PITA. Almost makes watching no fun at all

Just like in college ball, a lot of the calls are about (perhaps overzealous) safety these days.
Replay takes time, but they usually get the call right after looking at film.

While admittedly, calls can be excessive but, as long as the refs use the same judgements for both teams, I'm good with that. I only watch one NFL team (and obviously their competition in that game). So far, I believe the calls in those games were fairly called.

I’m not saying there’s many calls (flags) that are “improper”. Or wrong. I just disagree with how “anal” (meaning overly picky) they are at times and then at other times much more reasonable. And it seems sometimes there’s an agenda attached to the strictness or looseness.

Chris, All I can say is that regardless of the team flagged, some fans won't agree and will say the refs are favoring the other team. The uproar heard from the Bengal fans when they played the Chiefs is an excellent example, the receivers toes were clearly out of bounds but........................... I don't always agree with the Refs but, they have to make calls in a sec and I'm getting playbacks. Most of the time, the calls are correct. Rams

pretty soon will be 2 hand touch or just make it flag football. Agree, way too many flags are thrown at times especially hitting penalties. Helmet to helmet is a flag for sure, but some are questionable where say the helmet hits other parts of the person and they still throw a flag.

Watching the Lions beat the Seahawks last night (yaay), I got to see my 1st new NFL kickoff. What in the Hell is that?!! It looks like they're all lined up for some square-dancing. Everyone wants a fair game, but man there were a lot of flags. At least the refs were quick about it, minimizing slowing down the game. On video replay, most of them were good calls (only a couple were iffy).

Apparently the NFL has studied the kick off stats and the new kick off is an attempt to cut down on injuries. Given the previous distance the two teams were apart for kick offs, the lessor distance means those players don't get to build up to max speed for the resulting collisions. Those dudes are big, mean and hit like a bus. I don't mind the new kick off rules but really enjoy it with the receiving team tries running the ball back. Being totally honest, who doesn't enjoy watching the "BIG" hits when they do occur. Rams

Some YEARS back before Mahomes the K C Chiefs were on Monday Night Football. They'd miked up I believe one of KCS Safteys and after a play the replay was aired. Sounded near like a vehicle collision. And the sound from the guy being hit! I'm thinkin in the not That distant future certain players in certain games may have body cams. RIDE SAFE.

Being totally honest, who doesn't enjoy watching the "BIG" hits when they do occur. Rams Of course it's about safety. But kickers today usually put it in the end zone with no run back at all. And a touch back is often better field position than any run back can get you. The new kick off looks 'pussified' stupid. You want to make them totally safe, just do away with them and give them the ball on the 25, 1st and 10. When I played football, I ran back all punts and kickoffs. I got hit, but never killed.

Although I loved playing the game, I'm paying the price today for the hits I gave or received in my high school and college days. Had I known then what I know now, I would have taken up underwater basket weaving. Rams

My undergrad U did require 4 gym classes as part of core curricula, so I took tennis, swimming and gymnastics. I took tennis twice because the teacher was a gorgeous, well built blond middle age woman (who would have none of my polite advances). I got As for effort though. On a serious note Ron, I have now been walking 2.5-3 miles every single morning for going on 2 years. Every one of my chronic sore spots has entirely disappeared (ankles/achilles, knees, low back), and I lost 25lbs (of belly). I had not been 152lbs for about 40 years. A couple neighbors ask me why I never run or jog. "The impact of running is not good for my old body. If you ever see me running.... you better run too."

Rams Yes, you have it right, military. And yes very different scenarios but injuries are injuries and they like to pretend they are old friends later on in life.
