What brand are you guys using? I've never liked the p.o.s. that's in the tool bag. I have a 18mm but it is too thick to fit (first tme I've had that problem) Who makes a thin wall 18mm deep socket?

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

My craftsman seems to fit just fine. They were bought around 97ish.

Thanks Fudgie, I was hoping someone would chime in quick. I'm headed to town and was going to pick one up. So I'm off to Sears.

I would think that probably is an impact socket. A standard deep 6-point socket should have no problem fitting in the well.

No luck fudgie...I bought a 12-point craftsman and still won't go in because of the head castings. Is yours a 12-pt or a 6-pt socket?

Ricky-D  It wasn't an impact socket but an old SK metric. My bike is a 98 standard, maybe I've got one with bad head castings

Anyone else have any suggestions?

After giving this some more thought..I googled thin walled 18mm sockets and to my surprise came up a craftsman 18mm sparkplug socket...not a deep regular socket like I bought! So one more trip back to Sears tommorrow for the correct one.

i got mine at auto zone its about as thin as thin gets. but alls i use it for is the plugs on the valk, and make sure you dont have any crap in the hole before you even try to remove the plug, take an air gun and give the ol'girls hole a proper blowing. dont question it just do it !!!!!!!!!!!!!! (i know your sparkplug boots have the flap that covers the hole and the head has a drain hole in it)

Not bad casting. They are all like this. Most sockets will fit down in the heads. Just have to look for a thin wall socket. I've been using the one that came with the bike. Been working great for me. I just use my torque wrench on the top part.

Just checked my 18 MM socket
Sears Craftmans spark plug socket for old eyes (with the 18 mm laser etched into a 3/4' X 3/4" panel)
Part Number 50728
I believe that if you order it "in the store" they will ship it to your door for free assuming they don't have it in stock.

CHECKED THE SOCKET AND IT SPUN ON THE PLUG (THE 18 MM SOCKET).
Then I remembered that I have E3's in there.
They are a 5/8" plug. Even a thick wall 5/8" socket will fit in the valve cover plug hole.

Went back to sears today, of course they didn't have the correct one on hand. I went to the AutoZone down the street and picked one up for six bucks, and it was a 1/2 inch drive. Fits perfect...now to start my rejets.  Thanks to everyone for the help.

Not trying to steal a thread but which E3's are you using and what do you think about them?
