I had ma part shipped from Jacksonville to Orlando (about a 3-4 hour ride). It went from Jacksonville to Miami to Atlanta to Tampa to Sanford (30-40 miles away) to Orlando to my post office to my house. 6 days!! Like you said, good thing I didn't really need it.
It's really a sad situation. A classic example of Government service. I know they are no longer run by the government but ....

Some years back I needed a part for my lawn mower and from my house to the manufacturer in Arkansas was about 160 miles. So I ordered the part and next day it was shipped and I was sent via E mail my USPS tracking #! From the mfg it went to Little Rock then Memphis then onto St. Louis across to K C then to Springfield Mo. and the next day to my house and just missed 2 weeks in transit! I should have got on Phatt Ghurl and picked up the part found a good place to have lunch and gotten in a nice RIDE and had it all done and back home 10 12 Hrs EASY! And sides gittin a RIDE I would have wadded less miles than the USPS. RIDE SAFE.

I, too, have had similar experiences. On this general note, I've often wondered what's kept Jeff Bezos and Amazon from wresting control of domestic mail delivery. Politics and bureaucratic inertia, probably.

Just about Every Trucking company I drove for liked to travel the shortest distance tween pickup and delivery. Seems as id the USPS is tryin its dangdest to put as many miles as possible on most if not all stuff delivered by them. And as a former trucker do NOT sound like a business model to squeeze the most profit out of a delivery system. RIDE SAFE.

Our great USPS decided that our town of 20K plus lots of folks out of town didn't need to sort our mail. So, all of it is being bundled up and sent to Medford hub to be sorted. 85 miles away. So, a letter that is being sent to local address takes a 170 mile ride. Now, they are saying that Medford hub needs to be moved. Great thinking.

They're doing that everywhere. They closed the sorting center in Roanoke, VA and all mail for this region is now sorted in Greensboro, NC. So if someone in Roanoke mails something to their neighbor, it is transported 90 miles by truck to Greensboro, sorted and then transported 90 miles by truck back to Roanoke to be delivered. The kicker is that when they closed the Roanoke sorting center they hailed it as a cost savings measure.

As slow as our USPS is, it's a speed demon compared to anything coming out of Italy. I ordered something on line three weeks ago, not realizing it came from Italy. It took all this time to just get to the U.S., the majority of that time was in country. I've ordered Valk parts from our friend in New Zealand, you all know the guy I'm talking about. In the past I've ordered something from him on a Monday, it has been delivered by UPS usually in less than ten days. My order from Italy took longer than that to get from the seller to the postal system.

the one horse downtown USPS (post office) is a joke. They are only open like 2 hours in morning, 3 hour lunch, then open for like 3 hours in the afternoon. What company is allowed a 3 hour break?

I recently sent a package to NJ from MA. It took 2 days. I wonder if location is the main difference, as in larger population coastal states with more infrastructure have better service. Shouldn't make a difference, as it doesn't seem to with the private delivery services, but the USPS is a government run service. So there's that.

I ordered brake pads and tires from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC on Tuesday. The tires shipped from Utah and arrived yesterday, delayed one day by snowy roads in Wyoming. The brake pads shipped from Kentucky and took a scenic route, to Denver, then New Jersey, back to Denver, and maybe to me today. In my experience, items with tracking numbers nearly always make it to their destination. But when they don't good luck with their 'insurance'.

I ordered more check. Got a notice that they were shipped 10/1/24. Became worried that they had been lost or stolen. Seems we get other people’s mail quite often so we assume some of ours gets delivered elsewhere. Talked to our bank around 10/21, they said give it another week. They finally hit our mailbox on 10/30. To get a tracking number I’d have to bump up and pay for a faster delivery. Might have to do that next time to relieve the stress.

I doubt he can be blamed for all the troubles of the USPS and I don't really have a complete understanding of them, but my understanding of the financial issues is the required retirement costs. Somewhere north of $5,000,000,000 a year.
