I've been riding a lot of low speed county and farm to market roads, no cars lots of turns, and the only roads my wife enjoys. My issue has been as we do a vacation further from home where I don't know the roads google maps is always fighting to put me on the faster shorter route. I recently started building my routes  in google my maps. Although you can import your my maps into google maps I've been unable to get google maps to turn by turn navigate my routes. It seems I need a motorcycle nav app to turn by turn my maps??? Anyway I guess a good motorcycle app will tell me when the pavement ends as apposed to self discovery with my wife on the back and maybe a trailer in tow. Does anyone have a preferred nav app to suggest?

Currently I upload My maps with the route in my phone's main window and have google maps running down in the corner to the destination. Navigating with google maps keeps the phone from going to sleep but I pretty much ignore it. If I feel it's getting late and have no signal maps is up and running and I can switch to it and it's destination time. I typically navigate old school with the names of the towns I'm going through listed on the tank bag with road names or numbers between the towns. Anytime I'm not sure about a turn I glance down at my location marker on my maps to make sure I'm not drifting off the planned route.

Although the procedure described works, it's pretty cumbersome, any suggestions for a better way would be appreciated.

Check this map app (https://scenic.app/). You can take any road/route you chose and you do not need to have a phone connection. Make a route to follow, find fuel, track yourself or share routes, Etc. Scenic is developed by a rider.

Disco and I travel using Google maps with "Avoid Highways" selected.  We have a general destination in mind, but just really a direction.  This keeps us off of the interstates and on secondary roads.  We have only been caught a couple of times in road construction when the road turned to packed dirt, then very soft, graded dirt.

Thanks guys! I think scenic might be exactly what I want. I might buy it when the android version comes out. Right now I'm in the test and decide phase. Hopefully I'll check out google maps with no highways selected before Thanksgiving. That certainly would make the rerouting better if not totally resolving it. It might still be a challenge when I'm looking to stay on county roads. I like knowing where the pavement ends which has me leaning toward scenic.

Avanti, on another note, I was wondering if your still considering new rear shocks? I got the fully adjustable YSS shocks. Initially they were too stiff for me 1 up as I have lower back issues and they come with stiff springs. Now that they're broken in I no longer use softer springs that I purchased. I just keep the preload and rebound damping backed way off for my lower back and I'm good. 2 weeks ago I took my wife on an overnight camping trip with the bike really loaded. My guess is 275 lbs above my one up loads with about 60 lbs behind the rear wheel in the trunk and hitch hauler rack. I was able to put about and 1" of additional preload on the stiff springs and added a lot of rebound damping (I guess that slows the return of the unloading super stiff springs). Anyway this all seems to be working for me. Now I plan to buy a trailer so I can do some light camping trips with my wife, starting this Spring. I would not have considered two up camping at all prior to fitting the new shocks.

Thank you for the shock information update. We ride the set up in the picture for quick trips but for touring with my wife we use an Aspen camper. We put on just under 12,000 miles this ridding season pulling the camper. It works well for us.
