Poor old Griz (15) not doing well at all… not himself, just hobbles around & wheezes… Thursday he just laid in my lap & let me pet him… Lulu says every day is a blessing  smitten

He’s been a veteran of many M/C gatherings & has many friends here, even some that were initially scared. He’s such a good boy, never any trouble always obeyed & loves his mom like crazy  angel
We’re just trying to let him be calm & relaxed…

Aww, thank you, Tracy, very kind!  smitten

Wasn’t sure if he’d make it through the night but he’s having highs & lows…

When puppy Griz came to us he was quite skittish, had broken leg, didn’t like our biker type friends wearing boots coming over- he would snarl at boots, wasn’t friendly to outsiders… Until, one day our friend Bruce DDT came over & sat on the porch. I grabbed LuLu “Look at Griz!” He was all over Bruce, laying on him && rubbing against his legs (cat like).
Bruce was the first one outside the family Griz took to. To this day, he’ll seek Bruce out to get a belly rub!
He’s got a lot of belly rubbing friends now…

Enjoy the time that remains.  Live each day as it was the best.

I have only had one pet dog pass away.  I did not treat her properly.  I could have done better.  With my dog Zoe, I will be by her side until she no longer is in this life.  I promised her that.

Gig,

Sure hate to hear all that, but... Their lifespans being what they are, that's an inescapable aspect of having pet relationships... Please give my special four-legged friend an extra belly rub for me... Oh heck, might as well give Lulu one too...

So sorry to hear this, I will pray for Griz.

When it came time to put my dog down it was painful and it took a good couple of years before I did not wince at the memory of him.

I don't know why but it seems harder to part with a dog than some people.

He was 16.5 and we woke up one morning and he was dragging his hind legs and could not get them under him. So we knew it was time.

I looked at pictures of young and old and the changes somehow I never noticed. He was always happy, greeted people and stuck by his agreement with me.

The agreement was he hated the leash, so we made an agreement, don't go to far away from my side, no chasing anything and running off and I will walk you without a leash. Always obeyed even when in the motorcycle bag he was always calm and never attempted to jump out.

Hoping for the best for Ol' Grizwald, he's a good boy.  Putting my granddog Fritz down was one of the hardest/saddest days I can remember, I still miss that dog.  She was special.

On another subject, Did you ever get the hood open on your van?

Man it's tough when you know they're in pain or struggling, all you can do is let them know they are cared for and lessen their pain, I had to put down Gus just a couple days after Christmas last year, 15 good years, and I still get dust in my eyes when I read this about Griz.

Today is very sad for us -  Griz is going for his last car ride.  If his legs worked, I know he would jump right into the car! Theresa says he’s embarrassed about not walking correctly & inability to go outside…
When he went to get neutered, Ryan told him “Don’t go, Griz,! Don’t get in the car!”  He really is the best dog!

When he first came to stay, I was sitting near the window reading a paperback & petting Griz  smitten
Next day, the book was not where I left it. When I found it, there was a hole through all 300 pages! Griz did not destroy the book, merely paper punched it. Very impressive work there Griz!

Merry Christmas, friends!  smitten

It’s heartbreaking to say goodbye to such a loyal and loving companion. Griz was lucky to have you and no one could have been a better owner than you were. I’m know their memory will live on in your heart. I’m so sorry.

 angel

I have heard or seen mentioned, several times, The Rainbow Bridge.  I sort of knew what it was but I thought I would look it up (link below).

Some words about the "bridge" and us

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Gig,

So sorry it is Griz's time to go, but if he is in pain and or immobile you are doing him a favor.  Please comfort Sis, and be there for him when he gets the shot.  It was one of my saddest days when we had to put Fritz down.  I still miss her as I will Griz.  Hang in there and hook up with Fritz when you get there Griz, you're both good dogs.

Sorry to hear this, we were really pulling for Griz to get better.

We had to put down a really good dog a couple of years ago.

it's tough to let them go but when the quality of their life is gone there really isn't a choice.

Their job is to guard, protect and comfort us.

Our job it to reward them with a good home and pats on the head.

Life's not fair and one of it's greatest inequities is that their lives are so much shorter than ours.
