The mute button isn't enough.

I want a TV that (has a setting or control) to automatically mute and black out the screen for all TV commercials, then kick back on for the program watched.  Just muting, you still need to watch the screen so you can see when your program comes back on.  I don't want to listen to or watch any commercials, ever.  They are a plague-like blight on humanity.  I know they pay the bills.  Screw them anyway.

The rare occasional commercial may actually be entertaining, but the bad outweighs the good by 99.9%.

I bet 200 million (or more) would like one too, and pay whatever (within reason) it costs.  I would.

We can put a man on the moon and drop a nuclear warhead in a spot from the other side of the planet.

This can certainly be done.  Why hasn't it?

And please don't tell me to just turn it off.  I do that more than ever before, but there are things I enjoy watching.

I remember back in the day VCRs had the capability of omitting commercials while recording. Then it seems that went away. Someone with $$ probably fought it.

And I know you can tape/dvd shows, then watch the tapes and fast forward all commercials.  That's a PITA.

...

I am almost certain that most of us have no remote idea what that would truly cost.

What a coincidence -

If you would pay for Dish network and using one of their Hopper receivers - you can get autohop over Primetime commercials on ABC, CSB, FOX and NBC for primetime programming (defined as the 7-10 PM slot for Central and Mountain time zones, and 8-11 PM for Eastern and Pacific time zones). starts an hour sooner on Sundays. Also, when the Autohop starts depends on what contract Dish has with them / the network providing the programming).

Yes it works well enough within the contract limits.

Well, I'm just talking about the cost of a TV (with an anti-commercial app on it), not paying off all the advertisers for any alleged loss of income (let them eat dirt).  The networks would hate it too and I suppose try and find a way to pass their losses of advertising revenue to us consumers.  Everyone wouldn't tune out commercials, but many would.

i have dish network past 10+ years and do not believe my hopper receiver that this autohop feature,  where in the remote/dish screen is this located?   am paying too much to begin with, but local stations is not what I usually watch anyways 7-10 p.m. but I do have near 90% of my dish DVR filled up.  LOVE IT,  record shows even football games and watch later say 3 hours of football fast forward between huddles and just watch play after play after play taking 1.5 hrs. tops is all, plus commercials gone forward thru them about 3 minutes.  doubt I could live without the DVR record feature problem is I have to start deleting stuff soon.

Thanks Scott, I didn't know that.  But being able to delete commercials only on the principle networks for a few hours a day wouldn't cut it.  And I don't watch those networks much anyway.

The only cable for many years in our neighborhood was Cox, and the aerial (telephone pole) wiring so old that every time it rained or even sprinkled, we lost service for hours or even days.  They didn't seem to care about us and never fixed or upgraded, so when Verizon Fios fiber optic came in nearly everyone went with them (me too).  My bundle for Hidef TV, unlimited phone (in US) and Hi speed internet is my highest monthly bill, but it has been flawless for years (except one small issue long ago, which they fixed pronto).

The only funny thing was when it was initially installed (to the front of my house), I wanted them to run the cable for phone to the rear, since nearly every room in the house was already internally wired for that rear hookup.  The obvious solution was to run it over the roof, and the installer was old and refused.  So while he stood by, I pushed cable under the vinyl siding, got on the roof and pushed it under shingles and trim and ran it to the rear hookup for him.  Three small sections of the cable were exposed to sunlight, so I later covered them.

I wouldn't want to go thru that again with another service (and am very happy with Verizon Fios).

I just want a TV with an anti commercial app (or whatever you call it) on it.  And wonder why there isn't one already available (to my knowledge).

I have to pee so often that commercial are a welcome event! I don’t watch any of the network stations anymore as I dropped DIRECTV almost a year ago and that was strictly due to constantly increasing rates and not commercials. I do have a digital antenna so I can watch local network tv if I chose but that’s very infrequent. I have a Roku that provides me with loads of entertainment and news outlets, and I have Netflix available also. Still have to put up with commercials but other than my internet bill I pay nothing for tv.

I rarely watch anything live on tv.

About the only thing I watch live sometimes is Fox News, but usually, because I have a DVR, I can back up an hour and start then.

Takes a couple hours of viewing, ff through the commercials, to catch up and then I repeat.

Every thing else is recorded.

About the only sports I enjoy is hockey and F1.  F1 is mostly at completely different times than my awake time and Hockey usually starts around 7pm.

If I start watching a hockey game around 8-8:30 I end up getting to the end just about tha same time as the game completes.

Just did a search and found this link. It does not discuss blanking the screen.
