Had to put my wife of 46 years in memory care yesterday. She still knows me and our sons and grandkids. I have lost my riding partner and my best friend.

Sad but I know you are making the best of a bad situation. Life has a way of throwing us curve balls doesn’t it? Prayers for your partner and the entire family.

I salute your courage, your compassion and your humanity !!
We have close extended family who cannot come to term with this same situation and it is very painful for us all to experience.
While I have no real idea of your circumstances, I’m sure you’ve made a proper move for all.

Terribly, terribly sorry to hear this and sympathize with your situation.
Visit as often as possible. There may be an adjustment period.
Some personal care items may be permitted…soaps, shampoo, even some snacks and stuff.
I’m sure you did but speak with nurses and staff on what’s permitted, what’s recommended, and what should be or shouldn’t be brought in.
My wife was allowed (before COVID) to take her dad out for day trips, breakfast/lunch and stuff like that.
Wishing your family all the best during this time.

Randy,
I'm truly saddened to read of this not entirely unexpected turn of events. No words can help, I know, and nothing any of us could do could make any difference. Just know that she and you are both loved and appreciated for being the good folks you are. My best regards and hopeful wishes for Suzie, you, and all impacted...

Randy , it hurts worse than anyone can imagine. To know when you need help is a good thing. It takes more than one person to care for a loved one. Do the best you can.

Thanks for the kind words. I have not been down this road. Suzie went down this road with both of her parents. I have no map or destination , I need to stay out of dark places and look for the light to guide me on this journey of life.

Sorry that it had to come to this, but is best. I just hope the place of residency is a good one and takes care of her as she deserves. I had to take my mom out of 3 assisted living facilities due to not really neglect per say, but certainly the care and food, etc. could have been better at 1st 2 places. toughest thing had to do was 'force' mom out of her home due to alztheimers NOT safe to be alone anymore after falling down, things were worse before falling down and I should have not let it get to the point of falling down, but mom still had somewhat her memory at the time knowing who we were still. As said, visit often and if anything like lake of care or bad meals being served, do NOT hesitate to let mgmt. of the facility know since the workers at those places do NOT get paid enough for sure. I did the best I could I guess as alztheimers got her in the end 2 years ago.

I'm really sorry to hear this.
You are both good people and I'm sure that this is hard for you.
I wish that there were some magical words to make it better, but sadly there are not.
Like others have said, visit often.
This will help her to remember you and the staff pays more attention to patients when they know the family is still involved.
We'll keep You, Suzie and your family in our prayers.

Randy,
I can't add much more than has already been said, other than one of the things I always looked froward to on one of my long road trips to join a ride, was seeing Suzie when I got to my destination. She was usually hanging around out in the parking lot greeting people as they arrived. Things only improved from that point on by getting caught up since our last meet up, or joining you guys on a ride, the destination didn't matter, it was just a pleasure to spend time with you guys. Things just won't be the same from here on in.
Hang in there buddy, and let me know if we can visit her.

Yes, it was great to see Randy & Susie at all the far-away destinations, smiling & greeting us! We knew we had arrived at the right place! If possible it sure would be nice to stop in & Say “Hi” - maybe spark a pleasant memory for Susie. Joe may even get her to fly around the room (happened before) We’re thinking of y’all hoping for the best!

I decided to look back through some pics of past rides. We've been on a bunch together. To my surprise, I have very few pics of the two of you together, there seems to be a lot of pics of your bike though. I hope that these pics bring you some comfort. For me looking back through pics of different rides turned out to be a bittersweet trip down memory lane for a variety of reasons.
