Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

« on: January 19, 2025, 07:29:43 AM »

That Was Easy…

Even though I’m no stranger to making this choice for resupply, I still marvel at it. I was in need of some items running low in my people fuel inventory, snacks mostly, but still among the things very much needed. I've learned not to go wild with my first shopping outing in case the new place to me doesn't feel right after a couple of days...

If I decide to leave early, at least I won't have to discard as much unused stuff. It also helps to wait a wee bit to see what I'm in the mood for at present. Tastes for various snacks, meals, etc., along with how ambitious I may feel regarding preparation do ebb and flow over time. So, how long might I remain at one place impacts all choices... Extend? Stay on course? Or depart early?

I went outside to see about removing our girl’s cover and prepping for a ride to the closest replenishment facility, when… Once outside, a few seconds into that exercise I said to myself, “Nah! Maybe we should consider another, better option!” We did…

Yep, back to the old smart box and a gander at the Door Dash website... Within an hour a knock on the front door announced the arrival of nearly all I'd requested (one item was out of stock). Modernity can be great much of the time, and this is one of the best examples that come to mind!

I've resisted the rapid march by many to acquire the 'latest and greatest' gadgets, gizmos, and products constantly being introduced. I don't begrudge any advancements at all; it's just that I don't want to have my focus redirected to mastering new tools to the point I lose any of the focus upon the actual things I'm earnestly trying to accomplish. Intellectual capital is limited, at least in my case, so I try to budget it wisely...

I've listened with genuine fascination as some others have dazzled me with dissertations on RAMs, Gigabytes, Nono-second speeds, APs, and all the wonderous things we have available nowadays. That's great and I salute their accomplishments and tech mastery.

Technology can be a most useful tool to accomplish end game goals. I do not want the pursuit of technology mastery itself to become the end game result, however. Investing the time and effort for this slow learner to keep pace is... simply not what I want to do with what remains of my life... I do change, just more slowly than most...

I recognize I'm paying a price for that choice. Known to economists as ‘opportunity costs’, every choice made also includes a choice to exclude something else. Is my time and mental distraction worth jumping through all the inherent hoops that come with such a choice? A value judgement, to be sure, and like with any such meaningful choice, mistakes will sometimes be made...

Oh well, to again quote that famous philosopher Popeye the Sailor, "I yam what I yam... and that's all that I yam." For better or worse, I'm lagging most of my peers and contemporaries regarding tech savviness and usage. As for this Neanderthal, however, I still have my eye rigidly fixed upon the donut and not upon the hole... I'm content with that...

All that said, I am still happy I've managed to make some modest progress, and for the most part the steps I have taken to keep up have paid off handsomely by sparing me some discomfort and misery along the way... Like my little shopping spree this morning, for a prime example! Hmmm, I reckon it's time now for a simple, low-tech sandwich followed by an uncomplicated, ordinary ole nap...

Bruce I just ran to the grocery in my truck before another snow today.  (marvelous)

I went right at opening to avoid any crowd.  Unfortunately, so did everyone else.   crazy2 Grin

The last giant snow here is still here, though melted down some and dirty.  The 2-3 more inches today will make it pretty again.   moon

Well played, Bruce. As noted, there is a cost to the convenience afforded. That's no different than shopping at a "Convenience Store" though. Their prices are higher than a grocery store because we are willing to pay that penalty for the 'convenience' part. All monetary transactions are a decision based issue. One is not 'better' than another. We pay for what we prioritize.

While I Know I Shouldn't I to restock the ol snackeroo goody box likely more than I should!  Roll Eyes BUT there are times snacks are needed with a cold adult beverage or a sofr beverage. I generally have both on hand along with some sippin whisky. As of this post my fresh and Much Needed first cup a coffee! And from the looks of the weather guessers guesses thinkin here I'm inside fer a couple more days and HAPPY the snack situation IS fer now anywho sorta almost under control. Had both trikes runnin the other day BUT their cave ain't heated. In fact their cave IS some drafty and dayligh shows thru a certain section of wall!  Undecided And Again Bruce a minor admonishment-stay warm stay dry!  2funny RIDE SAFE.

Ron,

Thank you for that! Really wonderful thing to say... Let me reciprocate... Among the many things you've done and/or tried to do over the years, none have moved me or produced more respect for you than one particular ride you hosted while still living in Kentucky.

You invited several folks to a 'Last Hurrah Ride' for Land Elephant (Charlie Morse), and it was far more than just a stellar weekend... It was inspirational and a wonderful gesture and experience. Thank you, sir, for being such a thoughtful leader! The shadow you cast is far longer than you realize...

Jess,

Yet another thing we have in common! I, too, have found myself trying to get a jump on crowds only to find myself in the midst of a throng of similar thinkers! Oh well, I know you well enough to know you at least already had a store of toilet paper and bread on hand, and that while you had to endure long checkout lines, you were also able to garner whatever it was that you needed...

I just made another attempt to 'beat the rush'... I've requested another week extension to this hunker down haven from the cold! I do wish myself luck with that!!!

DDT (12)

Eric,

Absolutely, my friend! As I read your reply, I was reminded yet again of how much I enjoy sharing the coddiewomple with you... Your riding is excellent, of course, but the quality time we spend together when not out on the road is the genuine treat for this usually solitary sojourner... Thanks for being you!

DDT (12)

Dennis,

Yup whether out and about traveling or home-bound and hunkered down, life goes on and hunger is a major factor in all that has to be considered. I'm not immune from any of that either, of course, so nutrition and junk food both are constantly at the fore of my thinking... Just like with you!

Flapjacks sure sound good, but I've never attempted to ascend to that level of culinary achievement. My lady friend in Wetumpka, however, had mastered that task, and I do think of her often... That's but one of the several things about her for which I retain truly fond memories...

Today I'm going to indulge in some scrambled eggs, toast, and bacon or sausage... I haven't decided on a meat selection yet... Heck, I might even do some Spam this time... Whatever I do decide, though, I can't imagine NOT enjoying it to the max! Yep, safe, dry, and warm... That's for sure a major part of my game plan, too!!!

Bruce, I always read your posts .
I don't always have anything to add.

In this case Door dash, yeah they don't have anything like that around here..

The only door dash here ; is when it's cold and HeroBud dashes  through the door and  into the warm house.

Tracy,

Living out like you do does have many advantages, to be sure. It also comes with a few drawbacks, though, and delivery food would definitely be one of them! Oh well, it's no wonder to this non-chef why you've mastered so many kitchen skills throughout your life! I know it was but a small sampling, but the meals I enjoyed at your place left me full and more content than Door Dash ever has!!!

Thanks for your reply and comments... It's great hearing from you! I read your postings, too, and I do admire the way you've carried on and persevered since our tragic loss... You go girl!!!

Bruce, if you could go back to your self of 25 years ago, I'd bet you'd amaze yourself with the amount of technology available and the amount you've embraced.

We all decide what level of "Tech" we use, for the most part, but some is just forced on us, like being able to pay tolls in cash.

I embraced cell phones very early when available over 35 years ago and have had one ever since.

It started with a pouch and ear/mouth piece/dial pad on a coiled line.

The "Tech" has past me big time though and I use my cell mostly AS A PHONE, sometimes texting tool and sometimes GPS.

Ordering food on in is foreign to me. Roll Eyes

So your ahead of me on that.

Tracy,

You're welcome, my friend! I've gotta say, though, I really have missed those 'Scooter Dogs' on my last couple of rides through your area!

DDT (12)

Bill,

You're right, of course... I have 'taken stock' a couple of times over the years, as a matter of fact, and I did amaze myself at just how far I truly have come... No rush, of course, and one could reasonably argue that I've actually delayed that progression more than was necessary, but even at that progress and growth have grudgingly come... That will most likely continue, too, but... I for sure ain't in no hurry!!! Thanks for the reminder...

Tracy,

Thanks for the kind offer! Who knows, I surely don't, what I might be doing this afternoon let alone when temps finally return to a tolerable range. I try to never say never, but... I'm not the most dependable or predictable traveler, ya know! Still, it is very nice of you to offer that, and I do appreciate your thoughtfulness... On the other hand, I wasn't kidding about truly missing those Scooter Dogs!
