Is it normal if you ride the bike regularly to not need to use enrichers even if it's in the 40's assuming the bike is started in an unheated shop, so the temperature of the bike is in the 50's. I never use the enriches on my 98 standard that's got stock jetting, cobra 6x6 exhaust, and has been de-smogged. The bike runs great and the plugs always look great. It even runs great at high altitude. There's never any popping or backfiring. I'm not complaining, just want to know if it's normal.
At the same temperatures the only way I could get down my street on my VTX would be to hold the throttle open to the mid jet and slip the clutch.

Historically on this site, bone stock and other Valks have varied in use/need of choke/enrichner.
My two stock Interstates both want full enrichner to fire up (instantly on one touch of the start button every time with good tune and battery, even in very cold) (always in neutral, not with clutch pulled). In warm, I only leave it on 15-30 seconds, in cold longer.
They will start without it in warm, but it takes more cranking and they stumble, so I always use it.
Some bone stock will easily fire and run smoothly in warm without enrichner. Not mine.

Mine is the same way. It's a 98 Tourer with 237,000 miles.

It isn't unusual for a Valk to start even in moderately cold without the enricher. Some will say that is an indication that they are tuned richer than needed and they may be correct. It doesn't indicate any real problem.
Valks don't think it is cold until well below forty degrees.

We are about to find out. It will not be above freezing here in the Houston area tomorrow. Hay Jimmyt

So I hear you guys saying my motorcycle doesn't think it's cold when it's in the 40's. Now I'm wondering why I can't make it to the end of the driveway without stopping to go pee unless I'm dressed like an Eskimo.

with today's unleaded fuel plug ceramic cannot be read, and color really means nothing. zero popping when going off throttle means idle mixture screws are too rich, wasting HP and fuel. 40F enricher not needed sometimes is common, never needing it indicates idle mixture screws are too rich. http://www.factorypro.com/tech/tech_tuning_procedures/tuning_carbtune,CV,lower_rpm_engines.htmlhttps://store.moto-lab.com/articles/idle-mixture-and-speed-setting-cv-carburetorshttp://www.factorypro.com/tech/tech_tuning_procedures/tuning_pilot%20jet,%20affect%20of%20size%20on%20idle%20and%20cruise.html

The trick is to pee one more time (no matter what) right before ever leaving on the bike (year round).

And the couple spots around my neighborhood. And behind dumpsters. And the portable urinal in the back of my big van. And once behind a big billboard overlooking the freeway during an annual big 4th of July local veterans ride. And 20 other fellows saw what I was doing, and ran up there too, laughing,
