Here is Denver Colorado we still have Rottella
oil.Rottella T is 15w-40 @ $11.50. The Rottela
5w-40 @ $19.50. Now which of the two would
be better for the Valkyrie?

Either one will work fine, I prefer the 15-40 myself.   Hoser

The 15-40 in the white jug is regular oil, the 5-40 in the blue jug is synthetic.  I prefer synthetics as I feel the transmission shifts smoother.  Use whatever you like.

I'm tryin' to simplify my shop inventory.  Any reason Rotella-T shouldn't/couldn't be used in any gasoline engine (ie:mowers, ATV's, tillers, etc.)?????

Yesterday I was in the local Wally World and they had 3 shelves near the front door of 2.5 gallon jugs of the dino Rotella T on sale for $25.50.  Back in the auto department 1 gallon jugs of Rotella T Synthetic were $19.50 while quart bottles of dino and synthetic were $2.37 and $5.77 each.

Ive been running Rotella T ..Synthetic.. cant bet the price and performance and from what I hera the key issue is that it does not have the anti- wear additives that can mess up the clutch.

That's why you have to check to make sure the label doesn't have Energy Conserving in the circle.  As far as I know, all semi and farm oil doesn't have moly in it which is what will make you clutch slip.  Me?  I'm not crazy about how Rotella T Synthetic does in my engine.  It seems to have gotten noisier so I'm going back to Mobil 1 15W-40.

moly does not make the clutch slip until its gets near 700 ppm and the oil is at 70+C and usually its the starter clutch. I have posted about this before. This info is from the actual SAE report 961217 dtd 1996 which also states that the manufactures use 10w30 to design their engines. Moly is a problem for automatic centrifugal clutches per the report.
The report indicates that a correctly sized clutch for the engines power transfer no slippage was found with up to 700 ppm moly in the oil.
the mobil 1 oils including their m/c specific oils have moly in them and actually more than their 15w50. Most oils do not have more than 300 ppm, it is either torco or motul that use 700 ppm in their m/c oil, due to a different formulation of the moly per their info.
I presently use Amsoil 10w30/30HD diesel oil. It is rated for wet clutches. It is the smoothness shifting oil I have used even better than rot T 5w40 which was very smooth shifting.
