Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Is It All in The Letter…?

Another morning and another morning ritual began. I set up the nap chair just outside the motel room then sipped that all-important first cup-of-Joe. I lovingly gazed at our wonderful girl resting peacefully on her side stand but fully awake and eager to go. She looked so good, too! Another guest out for his morning exercise casually strolled by and lavishly complimented my lovely companion… This is not uncommon at all, as any Valk owner already knows.

I glanced skyward for clues as to what might be instore for us that day. Overhead solid layers of dark clouds were moving eastward at a leisurely, unhurried clip, but just above the horizon the clouds were thin and barely translucent. Where land and sky met, the first glimmers of ‘rust’ were appearing, with the visual assurance, confirmation really, that the crowing of the rooster had again worked its magic and soon the solar orb would once again be in full view… maybe…

Oh, it would rise for certain, but the advancing clouds were clearly hinting we would likely see instead only diffused, heavily filtered light, and the application of sunscreen would be a wasted effort. As sometimes happens, the weather guesstimate turned out to be reasonably accurate, and I had fortuitously heeded its warning by taking this room for two nights. I could use the rest anyway…

After retreating back inside the room, I cranked up the smartbox to see what had happened in the world since my last cyber visit… Regarding the national news nothing much had changed, of course, as POTUS was still either a Nazi or savior of our nation, depending upon which headline I happened to notice. Knowing the source of the ‘scrupulously factual' news can be unfailingly helpful with insights and clues as to which characterization might be applicable within an article.

It has become obvious that no further diligent effort on my part will be necessary to stay current and know with confidence which claim applies… All one needs to do is: First, check their favorite news source only, then check which capital consonant enclosed in parentheses follows the name of the subject… and Viola! There is the answer! It seems to this skeptical observer that ‘Artificial’ Intelligence may have been with us far longer than we might ever have imagined…

As if to underscore that amazingly clever observation, a loud clap of thunder crashed just outside and rattled the room’s sole window! WOW! “Now that is something not to be missed,” I wide-eyed urgently proclaimed to myself, as I leapt into action!

I hurriedly grabbed the compressed nap chair by the door and dashed back to the observation deck to gaze in awe at the developing spectacle. As I knew it would, dazzling lightning flashes accompanied the downpour and more unmistakable audible declarations that not riding on this day had been a very good call indeed!

During this special viewing of nature’s big show, a curious but not totally unrelated thought occurred… ‘Does peeking at a familiar beautiful naked lady while she’s in the shower constitute technical voyeurism?’ She is so very lovely to her partner, and she was definitely ‘in the shower’… Could a parenthetical vowel not purchased from Vanna White on ‘Wheel of Fortune’ following one’s name, like (I) for instance, provide a clue? Of course, it would also depend, I suppose, upon which ‘dedicated-to-truth’ news source was ‘reporting the facts’…

A fruitful day of pondering and relaxing instead of serious riding would clearly be the task of this day. Geez, I was surprised at being sore in a few places that usually doesn’t happen. Of course, I’d also put this ol’ bod through a not at all typical ambitious pace the previous two days.

A combination of miscalculations, stubbornness, unplanned route changes, unforeseen local happenings, and curiosity had produced the longest days in the saddle in recent memory. I was quite happy to have verified that I could still do it… I was equally relieved when it was finally over! Maybe I need another letter like (W)… for whipped!!! Maybe all I truly need is just a number… (12)!

Bruce,
I don't think whipped really describes you.
Be safe my friend.

Food for deep thinking again, Bruce. Thanks. I was released to ride by both surgeons a week ago yesterday (Hand and spine surgeons) and have managed to therapy myself for about 1500 miles so far. I'll have my first fairly long ride to AR next month, so I want to be ready. I'm feeling better than I have in years-Happy Camper here.
Ride often-ride far.

Don,

Not whipped in terms of 'defeated', but in terms of being plum tuckered out: I definitely was! Like I was that afternoon in southern Wisconsin when you, Barb, and I unexpectedly found each other on our way to the Quad State Ride a couple of years ago! The complexion of my riding sure is evolving, and it ain't all good either!!! See ya in a week or so... if I can make it...  Wink

Eric,

Excellent news, my friend! I love it when things work out, and it appears this most recent medical experience of yours does indeed have a happy outcome! Looking forward to swapping more yarns with ya... soon, too... Thanks for the positive update!

Speaking of which, there is a small mostly Valk gathering in northeast Alabama in just under two weeks (4/11-4/13), that I'm shooting for. Now if you were to alter/extend/accelerate your plans for a ride to Arkansas just a wee bit and scoot on over to Bama, well... It could sort of be like a variation of the spontaneous 'Nebo Nibble Ride' last year, and who knows what could come of that! Ponder on it some and let me know!   Cool

Eric,

More great news! Ponder hard, my friend! Among the many things I like about you is your willingness to seize unexpected opportunities, roll-with-the-flow, and let life's mysteries unfold before you with eager anticipation rather than dread. You don't think in terms of why you shouldn't do something; rather, you are always thinking about 'I just may'. Like with few others I've met, you do understand that some of life's greatest memories are to be found pursuing things other than what we'd thought might lie just ahead! I'll be making more of those memories... I hope you can join me!
