Turn Signals

I have a 2000 Standard. Taking it out of mothballs today I noticed when I hit the left turn button, nothing happened. After hitting it 2 more times, the left turn signal started to flash. Front and rear bulbs are good. It seemed like a long delay. When I hit the right side, it lit up instantly! Can I clean the swith like the starter button? Any suggestions out there? Thanks, JOHN

Yes you can; however, you can take contact cleaner and spray it into the switch slot on the left switch box. That should take care of your problem. It did on mine.

Mine does this when it gets below 40 deg out. Been meaning to work on it for a few years now. I just hit the button a 1/2 mile from my turn.

Mine did that and I ended up taking it apart to see what was wrong. Turns out the factory grease had dried out and had the consistency of wax. When it was cold it was hard and interferred with switch operation. Once it would warm up, it would soften and the switch would work ok. I dug all the old grease out and regreased with silicon grease and it works like new now.

Hey John ,Had the same thing with my I/s started with a little delay in cold weather. Worked up to not working at all. Took the switch housing apart cleaned it with contact cleaner. Bought some I believe its called dielectric grease, at advanced auto $1.00 and applied it to the switch . Works like new. Went ahead and did the other side figured it wasn't far behind. Good luck. Short term, spray a little cleaner in that switch. Got more time it time to regrease the switches. Be sure to catch all those little screws and springs that fall out of the housings.
