Willow Springs mo

« on: May 19, 2025, 09:44:03 AM »

Well a branch bank of U S Bank in willow Springs Mo. just decided a couple thousand customers weren't near enough to keep it open!  Lips Sealed Some folks i talked with said they'd been doing business with this bank 40 years or longer. I've been with them a bit over 25 years. Closest physical branch now a bit over 80 miles away. I tied up with a local bank and so far so good. While the new to me bank does Not have branches other than local I do have access to ATMs with no fee use. And compared to what's going on in AMERICA this seems but a minor ripple in the scheme of things. BUT this closure IS aggravating and NOT just for me. 25 years of Loyalty Used to Mean something!  Undecided O K rant off! RIDE SAFE.

For some reason that I'm sure had absolutely nothing to do with any of my social media activity, Bank of America decided to close my account of 35+ years a year or two back...

I now bank with USAA; their nearest location to me is 300 miles. I've never once sat foot in a physical location for my bank. Just no need in $Current_Year.

We’ve been dealing with a local bank for over 30 years and have had excellent service, never an issue.

Unless you’re dealing with high finance a local bank with a decent reputation should be able to extend you all the same services a national bank would…savings, checking, electronic banking such as direct deposit, loans, debit cards or possibly even credit card services. Local banks are local businesses just like your favorite place for a coffe and butted roll or ice cream stop.

I've been with Navy Federal Credit Union since August 1984, and I went years in Raliegh NC with the closest branch being > 100 miles away. We used ATM cards to pay for groceries, and got cash back if we needed cash. Even now, my nearest branch is up in Leavenworth KS outside of Ft Leavenworth (about 20-25 miles from us).

For any of you who are Veterans or Active duty (in ANY service) (or DOD civilians), you might consider giving them a look. They have just about any service you can get from a bank, and generally - if there is a military installation close to you, there's probably an NFCU branch also.

I haven't used them, but I've heard USAA is also good.

Edit -

Oh, We do have an account at a local bank, the same one my MIL used. It's more convienent for somethings.

Thumbs up for USAA.  Been with them since 1973 for banking & insurance on home and auto.  Great!  There are no physical locations, all through phone or electronic.  Have the free ATM use anywhere.

I've done no business with any Bank since my 20s.

My principle Credit Union in MI since my teens, and when I needed local service and cash Navy Federal CU, which it right up the street.

Been with USAA since military service, but only insurance not banking.  They lay all bike insurance off on  Progressive (and I do no business with any company that calls itself progressive; except Progressive Suspension).  USAA has really raised my truck/homeowners insurance rates the last couple years (like over double), and I can't remember ever making a single claim.  I've resisted the urge to call and whine about it; I suppose rates are up everywhere (like prices), and it's not like I'm going to switch companies.

a lot of banks are merging with other banks or closing down branches is more and more common nowadays.  i switched most of my money over to summit credit union vs. my local mom/pop small bank in town.   The mom/pop bank locally everyone knows each other business not like that and the customer service has declined in recent years with less and less banking hours available when they are even open.  How hard is it to be open 8-12 on a saturday vs 9-12 and even then, is ONLY the drive thru on a saturday. being open so if someone ahead of you is doing a HUGE LONG transaction, I have sat behind 1-3 cars before over 10 minutes, total waste of time.
