NASCAR fans; Dale Earnhardt docu-series

If any is or was a Dale Earnhardt fan or just a fan of old school NASCAR, Amazon Prime is running a 4 part series on Dale. Dale Jr. was involved in the development and production of it. Currently 2 parts are available to watch, I’m not sure when parts 3&4 will be viewable, maybe a few days or next week.


Last night I watched Part 1 which was excellent amd brought back lots of nostalgia and stopped at the end of ‘86. Each episode is about 1 hour.

I don’t want to give away any spoilers so I won’t go into detail but it’s certainly not the same old same old stuff at this point. There are some similarities to older or other interviews and commemorative videos from after his death but this seems to be well put together.

So if anyone is interested, the first episode wasn’t a waste of time in my opinion.

I remember hearing Michael was making a documentary about Dale but don’t ever remember hearing about it being released.

Back when, we had a group of friends who’d gather on Sunday with newspapers and our Winston Cup Scenes and go over qualifying results and our thoughts of wherever the race was that particular Sunday.

One of the first questions was always *where did Earnhardt qualify and how many laps would it be until he took the lead”. Watching Dale work his way through the field was one of the most enjoyable and exciting parts of Sunday racing.

Every once in awhile I’ll rewatch the final laps of his last race at Talladega and his march to the front. The roar of the crowd over the noise of the race was amazing.

No they didn't! 


But, I knew it was out, watched the first two episodes last night.

It's well done, I didn't know that Dale refused to attend Neil Bonnet's funeral which was odd since they were best friends.

He did talk with Neil's wife and made sure she understood, but for some reason he just couldn't attend.

After watching the show it reminded me that Dale didn't attend the funeral service for Neil.

I think Dale carried a lot of guilt for getting Neil back into a car, possibly when he shouldn’t have been.

I wasn’t privy to any conversations but I think Dale was just trying to help Neil out after Talladega with earning money even though Neil was working in the booth and had his TV show…I think it was called Winners. Knowing Neil, if he had outstanding hospital bills he would not have accepted any handouts so Dale/Richard got him into first doing testing and R&D for RCR. I wouldn’t think he’d be out there just turning 2-3 laps at a time doing that.
