On my way back from the Motofest I took that stretch of US-6 from Tonopah to Ely, Nevada. It's 169 miles with no gas, the longest in the lower 48 states. 9 miles before I reached Ely a Tesla was on the side of the road, plugged into a charger of some kind in the trunk. Obviously the owner was pushing it to the limit and was prepared. I wish I would have taken a photo. I did get one of the sign a few miles outside of Tonopah.

WHY would you take a road where you are almost guaranteed to run out of fuel / gas / battery ?

Teslas are all over the place where I live. Including across the street. If someone gave me one, I'd sell it. Fast as hell (though only some drivers will put their foot in it). I've had a higher end one walk away from my Valk despite my best efforts (and that doesn't happen very often). WHY would you take a road where you are almost guaranteed to run out of fuel / gas / battery ?You got enough money to buy one, you got enough to buy the recharger too.

Maybe they wanted to drive the longest stretch of no-services highway in the lower 48 in a Tesla and brag about it. But they carried the backup charger just in case. There was a headwind and 70 MPH speed limit so nobody was getting great mileage.

electric cars are not for me. I once ran out of ebike power 1 mile on a bike trail and try pedaling lowest 1st gear easiest pedaling 1 mile at 3 mph tops on crushed gravel. E-bikes are HEAVY!!
do not think I can push a tesla but would try pushing one off a cliff since Elon Musk is involved..

The ONLY battery I want in a car is a 12V that powers the starter of an ICE and miscellaneaous low drainage 12 V accessories. If it came down to Hybrid or all electric - definately the hybrid for me.

Everyone wants electric cars and trucks and tools and lawn equipment. It's the new rage. But many think this very old piece of electrical equipment is not cool and should be outlawed (I don't). I got my mom (95) a different kind of electric chair. She loves it.

So you just HAD to be a good son and spoil her Scott, she's on a walker at all times indoors and outdoors, and had difficulty just getting out of a chair. And she sleeps in that chair. And lacks the strength to operate a regular recliner. You bet I spoil her, I got her two (bedroom and living room). When she followed my lead, and began walking outdoors, she was using her little 'hunch over' house walker, so I did some research and got her an upright walker for that exercise. She goes 3/4 of a mile daily now. The other son (my brother) and his wife live next door and take care of her. I live 9 hours away.

Jess - just gentle ribbing of someone who cares for his mother and is trying to make her life as good as possible while she is still alive to enjoy it. IOW - someone to be admired.

A chair like that REALLY helped me after my get off at 35 mph. 6 broken ribs makes it super hard to get up out of a chair or toilet. Amazon delivered in 2 days and I was living in that chair for 2 months. Jess, kudos for taking care of Mom. There are many of us that cannot simply call and talk to her any longer. Cherish your time with her, I surely did. Hay Jimmyt

I do Jimmy, and will be driving up to see her for my annual pilgrimage back to MI in a couple weeks. And also hooking up with my only niece who will be there from Los Vegas at the same time, who I haven't seen for some 30 years.
