I've done this road twice on a Valk and my old Wing. You're at 2500' in Safford and 9,100' at Hannigan's Meadow before you get to Alpine.

I just did that trip on May 16 while the Greer Fire was going on. Never saw any fire, smoke, or fire trucks and we were within 6 miles of Greer Had clear skies the 3 days we were up there.  The group I was with did it a little different route this time. We rode to Alpine through Payson and stayed the first night in Alpine. The next day we took off on hwy 180 and headed into New Mexico. We stopped at a nice restaurant/ Gas station in Alma to gas up. We proceeded to Glenwood and down to Hwy 78 and cut over to 191 through Mule Creek. Rode 191 back to Alpine for another night in the same hotel. Of course, the ride up 191 was stunning. Rode back home on Sunday the 18th. I really enjoyed Hwy 180 in New Mexico. It is a beautiful road to ride and if you haven’t done it before it is well worth the trip and depending on the time you should stop at the Catwalk Recreation Area outside Alma. A nice little hike back into a canyon using catwalks to walk above the river.

That's a well done video!

I wish that I had known about that when I was out there last summer, the elevation would've provided a break from the heat.
