Since no one else has mentioned it, I thought I would.

There will be a great big military parade in Washington DC Saturday commemorating the US Army's 250th Birthday.  The largest military parade in decades — filled with thousands of marching soldiers, rows of tanks and and military vehicles, parachute jumps and flyovers and fireworks.  It happens to fall on President Trump's 79th birthday, as well as Flag Day.  Although Trump's birthday is not officially linked to the festivities, a large-scale military parade has been on the president's wish list since his first term.

More than 6,000 soldiers from every Army division are expected to participate in the parade. It will also showcase members of the National Guard, the Army Reserve, Special Operations Command, West Point and Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC).

Beyond troops, the parade will feature 49 aircraft, 128 vehicles, 25 horses, two mules and one dog — not counting the historic aircraft and vehicles also set to appear. To close out the parade, the Army's Golden Knights demonstration parachute team, based at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, is expected to perform a jump.

I expect to see and hear more Army Blackhawk helicopters than usual flying over my house from close-by Davison Army Airfield (that move the President and other bigwigs around town).

Predictably,  'No Kings' protests against the Trump administration are planned in many cities across the US in response.  And there will probably be some dickweeds making trouble in DC too.

I think this is a capitol idea.  I'd love to go, but after spending nearly 20 years working for USDVA a block behind the Whitehouse, I swore I'd never enter that city and traffic nightmare again the day I retired 15 years ago, and I haven't.  I'll save my old sore feet and watch on TV.

Happy Birthday US Army!!   Go Trump!!    Smiley

Recognition of our military, especially the Army is a fantastic thing, without our Army we would not have what we have.

We should be proud of the Army and all of our military groups and members.

It’s also Flag Day.

I hope the weather holds out and it’s a great evening and event.

A little something from Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead. Wave That Flag.

I have some great memories from my time in the US Army.

250 Years for a standing Army is quite an achievement!

Happy Birthday to the United States Army.

Happy Birthday to Donald J. Trump

It should be a very great parade, if the weather cooperates.

And my flag always flies except in very foul weather.

Speaking of marching.....  (I've no doubt told this story before)

When I went on active duty as a direct appointment (reserve commission) Judge Advocate at Maxwell AFB AL, I did not have to do a full officer basic training.  Instead I went through a 2 week salute school (with other direct appointment Doctors, Dentists, Chaplains, a couple reservists.  Like 25 of us.

Most of the school was classroom, but we marched on the flight line (burning AL summer heat and sun) 4 times.

Way back in Boy Scouts, a local Naval Air Station sponsored our troop and we met at the base gym, and they gave us a real DI to teach us marching and close order drill (with no bad language).  And we enjoyed it and worked at it.  So down at in Alabama, though it had been a long time, I still knew how to march.  But I was the only one who did.

Our little troop of misfit direct appointments was like an old Monty Python skit of stumbling and bumbling and stepping on the guy aheads shoe and him walking out of it.  Funny as hell.  Our poor DI was upset and unhappy the whole time (you people suck!!), which made it even funnier.  That was 1984.

I expect it will be better at the big parade.

Although she didn't get selected to go, Kali got to help/watch a lot of the tanks and horses from Fort Hood get loaded up and headed north...

(Found it amusing they painted the desert tan tanks back to green for this.)

KK (Shortie) and I will celebrate by skadaddling on out of the country for a bit I think..  cooldude

I VERY briefly considered detouring that way to be there for that, but not a fan of big crowds, especially those with giant bullseyes on 'em...

This soldier is certainly pumped for the parade tonight.

Unfortunately I may miss the beginning of the show.

My daughter spent the last 8 weeks an assistant baseball coach for kids with disabilities and tonight is their last practice followed by some burgers and dogs on the grill at the park and she asked if Barb and I would be there. Hiw can you turn that down.  Smiley

Several of the kids there have speech issues (she’s an SLP) and have been non verbal, but in the short she has been involved parents have told her she helped quite a bit as kids have been more vocal at home.

Newsmax has some "lead ups" to the Parade in D. C. airing now.

One song I like, done by Lee Greenwood, was played on the show.

This version, also has Home Free, a group I like as well, and members of the United States Army singing with Lee and Home Free.

Here is the link if you are interested.

So unfortunately baseball practice and burgers/dogs canceled for tonight because of rain Angry

But I’m sitting and watching the parade.
