Excessive play in the wheel hub
«

I took the rear wheel off my 99 I/S today. The splines on the wheel hub and the final drive seemed ok for a 26!yr old bike. The hub section bolted to the wheel is a little loose with play. Is that supposed to be tight, or have some play in it. Seems like it would cause wear having play. I took a picture, but didn’t see how to attach it to this post. Thanks.

That’s called the Flange. It is not bolted to the wheel. Just jank it off. DONT MESS WITH THE FIVE BOLTS.
Sounds like you need new dampeners.
