I have a 98 honda valkyrie with about 66k miles. In great shape visually. It has a problem where when I'm driving it from 3000 rpm to 3500 rpm where it gets kinda hung up then kinda slams forward when slowly rolling the throttle. But if I roll hard through those rpm I dont feel it. It skips over the studder or hang up. It has an intense amount of decel pop aswell sounds like a semi.

Given this information I'm unsure if this is a carb issue. And needs a rebuild or an ignition issue or wiring issue. The throttle cables are in good shape.

I got it a year ago and this issue has kinda slowly got worse. And the issue doesn't appear when I rev on it under no load.

I was never told of a rebuild happening on this time.

Howdy Natedogg333 and welcome to the VRCC Forum.  Given the information you described, my initial thought is that the carbs need to be cleaned, synchronized and then the pilot screws adjusted to get the fuel mixture in line.

Also, seeing how your bike is at least 27 years old, it is most likely time to replace the vacuum lines, the cover set (fuel valve), fuel lines, etc.  We can't stop time and even if your Valk has been garage kept, all those rubber parts will dry up and fail eventually.

I cleaned up the carbs on my '98 while we were all shut down due to covid.  It's an easier project than you think!  One thing for sure is if you have a Honda Shop Manual, then you can confidently do almost any type of rebuild, maintenance, repair, etc. that is necessary to keep your Valk in tip top shape.

A good source for some of the parts you'll need are here at Red Eye...

FYI, the carbs on the Valkyries are actually very simple compared to other carbs I've worked on.  An example of that is that there is no float adjustment.  (That's one less thing to worry about!)

Anyway, good luck..I figure that if I can successfully rebuild the carbs on a Valkyrie, anybody can!

Add a can of Berryman B12 to 1/2 tank of gas. Try to hit the problematic rpm as much as possible for the remainder of that gas. Use lesser dosage in next few tanks, 1/4 can in each full tank.

If that helps, use it occasionally from then on.

Worth trying!
