I run a 1999 Valk Tourer. Needs a front tire. I have always used Metzeler tires, first the 880, now the 888's. I can't find the 150/80-17 anywhere. I have always heard Avon Cobra's are good also, and I can't find it either in our size front tire.
My primary concern is traction in the rain. Not worried about longevity so much or twisty's...we do longer trips and get stuck in the rain often...the Metzeler has always performed, no matter how hard the downpour.
Is there another size that is close enough?

This is disconcerting because I also only ran/run the 880 then the 888s fronts (last 888 just a couple months back).

I just looked and also found them out of stock, but this site says "no longer in production".

I'd call Metzeler direct and ask.

I know nothing about the (Not as good? Cheaper.) Metzeler Cruisetec (it sure looks just like the 888)

The bike shop told me that the Cruisetec was the current Metzler tire for our bikes.  I suppose that is the one that I will order, since I just about went into the belts on my Inzane trip this year.

I can't find the Cruistec in 150/80-17 either.  Is there another size that would fit and work equally well, so I could stick with a Metzeler tire?

If I did switch brands, I've always heard a lot of good things about Avon tires, does anyone know of a specific model Avon I should look for?

Follow up..I did find this...pay now, get the tire in 3-4 weeks...

I been using Bridgestone 701/702 most the time. Got a deal on a set of AV 72 Cobra's in between the Bridgestone sets and been caught in storms with both brands and nada difference and no cooler temps issue. I got 23,000 mi. with beads with the Cobra. Doing a set of BS with beads now. And yes I know Dunflop OEM 404 on the 1100 Spirit were really squirrely in these conditions. Pirelli's replaced them and night & day difference. Finding size/deal has been pretty hit & miss since 2023. Diligence is needed!

Well do us (Metzeler fans) all a favor and report back on how you like it after a while.

About the same, worse or better than the 888?

So, why does a tire need a keychain?  angel

I am struggling to find the Metzlers in the sizes for my Magna as well so it’s not just the Valkyrie sizes that are hard to source.

I misspoke when I said I got an ME 888 a short while ago (above).

I got the newer CruiseTec.  (And stuck the tire sticker in my trunk lid to remind me)  crazy2

So I can answer my own question.... I can notice absolutely no difference between the 888 and the CruiseTec.

Just did another 4hr cruise early (before the daily thunderstorms).   tickedoff

in the same boat but needing front and back - I did find both in avon cobra chrome at Fortnine - but I also read a bunch of reviews bemoaning cracks developing in the cobras (never heard of that back when I was running them repeatedly on vtx 18 and previous valk IS - anyone here have any carcass issues with the avons? I really do like their stickiness as I live in a rain forest LOL

I've been through several sets of Avon Chromes over the years & never had a problem. Great mileage & adhesion. Dyna beads only & proper inflation (40-42 psi front, 42-44 rear) are key to longevity.

Avon Chromes were released in 2021. The old AV72 Cobra's were a pretty good tire IMO but the Diamonds price point is kinda steep. Finding any tire @ a decent price is becoming a challenge.

I was oogling over a brand new Indian Challenger the other day.  It comes with the Metzeler Cruisetech tires, so I gues they are pretty damn good.  Haven't got my new front one yet, will report in once mounted and ridden.

I jumped off my Kubota BX tractor, key in hand.  I dropped the key in the tallish grass and the earth just swallowed it.  Key was gone.  Tractor was going no where now.  That's when I found out all BX tractors use the same key, just go to the dealer and buy one.  I also got in the habit of putting big ugly key chains on little keys like this.  I'll find a use for it !

I keep all copies of my keys on a ring I wear on my belt, just in case. Just don't lose the key ring.

Put on the new Cruisetec tire and took it for a ride.  Straight as an arrow.  Beautiful tire.
