97 carbs

When I first got my 97 Valkyrie I swapped out the carbs for a 2000 rack as I didn't
have enough experience with rebuilding carbs. I was lucky enough to bolt them on
and after a synch, never looked back (2003).
Tank & carbs were in rough shape after having been improperly stored for years.
It had been a demo bike which broke down and was abandoned at the dealer
waiting for (parts/insurance claims?)
From 98 on the carbs were the same for standard/tourer models.
I believe the only difference win 97 was the needle size.
The Valk runs great for the past 22 years but I always wondered if there was some kinda
mismatch with the 2000 carbs. Weren't the 97s marginally faster?

increased power in '97 was the OEM R1 camshafts. not all '97s had them. all '98s have the R2 emission cams, less HP and mpg.
needles have nothing to do with almost 10hp increase.

The 97 carbs have a different part # but I have no idea what might be different.

I'm not sure what is different internally, but the initial pilot needle settings are different.
