Monday morning Mama had her left knee replaced by metal parts.  She is doing well now in recovery but there were some times.

She had her right knee replaced a few years ago.  This one was a challenge for the doctor and maybe a bit confusing as the left knee was the right knee and the right knee was the wrong knee.

He ultimately got it correctly.

They usually have the nurse write WRONG on the extremity not being operated on. So the Dr won’t get confused  crazy2

Glad she’s doing well  cooldude

I'm sure she's looking forward to not having that knee pain.

My wife has had both knees replaced and one shoulder so far.   They are considering the other shoulder now.   It ain't fun but, somethings never are but necessary.

Since it’s the other knee at least she knows what to expect! Wish her the best from all of us.

I hope she has a speedy recovery.  My wife had one knee done, but they had to do it twice.  The doctor told her she didn't have to baby it, that it was stronger than her original knee.  She must have taken that as a challenge and ended up breaking the first one and had to have it redone.  She also got her hip done.  Her resale value is pretty much shot now.  They did mark the proper appendage with a magic marker to make sure they got the right one.  When she went in for cataract surgery I offered to circle the proper eye with a magic marker, but she wouldn't go for it.

I am glad your mom’s correct knee is doing well.

Somewhere on here recently one of my posts referenced my getting an Engineer fired.
This happened back in the late ‘90s

That person had done up some CAD prints of a full distal femoral implant that I then programmed and machined prior to its being implanted in the right leg of a teenage male. A couple years later we had to do an emergency left leg implant for a 30 year old female. The sizes were the same and he thought to rework the original drawings rather than work from scratch. The CAD files were delivered and I was told it was an emergency and full priority. I did the program the Thursday before Easter and ran it in the machine on Good Friday morning. Alone in the factory I removed the now $17,500 piece from the machine and was a little confused at what I was looking at. I compared it to a couple plastic femurs I had hanging on the wall and suddenly realized he had swapped the epicondyles. The angle of the femur section was correct but the big end bumps were not. A $17,500 paper weight.

My boss and the guys from the implant company were out playing golf while I slaved away alone in the shop. He had one of those brick size cell phones so I called him and told him what I discovered and that I was doing a Stop Work on the project. They were all drunk and many horrible words were exchanged over the phone. Mostly about my competency and skills. 90 minutes later they showed up and I proved I was correct using the “paperweight” and the plastic bones. The Engineer was fired on the spot and except for having Easter dinner with my girlfriends family, I spent the entire Easter Weekend redoing the geometry, programming, machining, sleeping in a sleeping bag and doing QC alone in the shop so the implant could be finished then handed over to the other company to be cleaned, sterilized and finally surgically placed the next Wednesday in a hospital 1200 miles away.

The implant was a success and prevented the woman from having her leg amputated below the hip.

Our neighbor who takes care of our animals when we travel just got a new knee.
And Carolyn's mother (over 90) got one last year. Mom's doing fine, neighbor's
getting stronger every day. We'll all be praying for you Moto-Mama...

Had my left knee replaced the first of March.  Did the PT, have pretty much the same range of motion as the right knee.   PT is the answer.   Yes, I am back riding.  Now to try to make my right knee behave itself for a couple of years before it has to be replaced.

Hopefully she will do the PT again as she has had her other knee replaced so she knows the drill..

Any update on how she's doing?

Does she have a little bell to ring when she needs to summon someone to help her with something?

Does she have a little bell to ring when she needs to summon someone to help her with something?

Update:  A week and two days out of surgery she moves around on level ground slowly but readily without any assistance or balance instrument.  On the stairs she will guide herself by the handrail.  She still will not yet commit to not needing the walker.  She is progressing very well but still feels pain at regular intervals when something happens such as a cat jumping onto her lap.

Does she have a bell?  No.  She does from time to time holler twenty feet down the hall, but sometimes her keeper doesn't respond.   Huh?

Glad to hear all is going well with recovery .
My mother in law had both knees replace at the same time . Not a happy camper but got over it slowly . Said if she had only done one , the other would never have been done . But this was 20ish years ago . Hopefully procedures have improved over that time.

Sounds like she is doing great.   But you need to respond a bit faster when she hollers out.   2funny

Tell her I quit using my "walker" the first visit to the PT folks a wee after the operation.  I was carrying it around the house and getting yelled at by DW.  I did find that ice helps out a lot.

speedy recovery for sure, hope all goes well and stays in better shape than prior.  coming back myself from 2 hips replaced back to back 8 week apart, is no picnic and heard knee replacement is worse to recover than new hips.. no thanks I had enough recovery took me near 4 weeks to drive a vehicle again still have not thrown a leg over any cycle or ATV but probably safe by now, but dr. said will be over 1 year or more for full recovery, be awhile.
