An interesting video about chivalry in the South.
And, just for the record, I was born and raised in what was, then, rural South Carolina. Chivalry was taught and we, as young boys and men, were expected to treat ladies and women with respect. Holding the door open, saying Yes ma’am and No ma’am, Ladies and women first .
It was engrained in us, not by anything other than meeting the expectations of our family and elders.

I was in a grocery store the other day and a young lady (probably in her twenties) and I sort of meet as we were shopping. I don't remember the full exchange of words but it was short and I answered with a "Yes Ma'am".
