Leftist Girl Learns to Appreciate Chivalry in Charleston, South Carolina

An interesting video about chivalry in the South. 

And, just for the record, I was born and raised in what was, then, rural South Carolina.  Chivalry was taught and we, as young boys and men, were expected to treat ladies and women with respect.  Holding the door open, saying Yes ma’am and No ma’am, Ladies and women first . 

It was engrained in us, not by anything other than meeting the expectations of our family and elders.

I do the same thing today. I was in a grocery store the other day and a young lady (probably in her twenties) and I sort of meet as we were shopping.  I don't remember the full exchange of words but it was short and I answered with a "Yes Ma'am".

There has been a number of times I’ve had the door for a woman, young girl or even a group of women, it’s just a normal thing to do. What I like best about it is when my wife has gone ahead and while waiting she gives me this little smile and when I join her she grabs my hand or interlocks her arm in mine and pulls me closer. A simple reward but real nice moment.

When we’re with our girls she has said to them, your dad may be weird and silly at times but if a guy won’t do what he does they’re not worth your time.
