That would be in place of the normal I/S radiator pods. If the Std/Tourer side covers fit the I/S radiator, I'm seriously thinking of leaving the pods off and just mounting some driving lights on the engine guard on each side. The lamps I bought to replace the OEM lamps have become a PITA to adapt. On top of that is the on/off of the pods trying to get the lamps centered in the pod opening. I'm simply tired of messing with that part of the project, the pods don't add anything to the esthetics of the bike and very little, if any, functional advantage.

I think a nice set of lamps mounted down low like described would look great and I could use the same circuitry to power them, including the on/off switch. Or...if someone has some black I/S pods without the lamp opening and wants to trade, I might consider that. I have only one original I/S mount for the lamps since I tried to modify one for the new lamps, but do have both lamps with the OEM bulb in them. Any thoughts or suggestions?

They have slightly different part numbers (MBY & MBZ) but the picture shows the needed threaded spot on the Istate radiator.

Anyone's guess.  I'm too lazy to take the pod off one of my Istates.  If yours are off you can tell it's okay for Standard if there is a threaded connection halfway down the side.

Carl, the I/S radiator has two threaded spots used for the bracket that the pod's front bolt uses...it's the bolt that's toward the bottom on the front of the pod. I imagine that bracket could be removed but leaves you without a bolt hole for the side cover. Maybe I'll just wait a couple days and see if anyone wants to swap non-lamp pods for my lamp pods, I never used them anyway. I did look online at a parts breakdown and the radiator shown for a '99 I/S isn't like the one on my '99. The online parts shows the same thing you saw, not sure why. It shows the bracket for mounting the pod in front and that bracket is shown with two bolts which mine has, but the radiator isn't shown with two threaded holes for them.
