Identifying noxious weeds. In my part of Central eastern Kentucky, now is the time to address weed control. How to accomplish this? In your yard if a plant species is green, it’s a weed, if it’s brown it’s your grass. Crab grass is green ergo a weed.
I haven’t had my mower out in weeks so I thought I would get it out and fire it up to make sure the battery is still in good condition, ect. It is the first relatively cool day so I rode it around for about an hour and I’m delighted to report that now all my weeds are the same height!

I used to go after all weeds, but have now decided if it's green (clover and crabgrass), it's OK. I do hate chickweed (woody bastards). In my part of Central eastern Kentucky....if a plant species is green, it’s a weed, if it’s brown it’s your grass.Same deal in No VA John.

“Jig” is a dance Pete Townshend would often perform during guitar solos… “I know that the hip mo tized never lie, Do Ya?! In “8Mile” Rabbit says to a factory rat: “You been in this plant so long, you’re growing roots!”

A month or so ago, I had a dump truck load of dirt delivered to my shop to put next to the side of the foundation. I got it all contoured the way I wanted it and immediately broadcast Bermuda grass seed and have been watering it every morning and evening for the past month. That area next to the shop and where my septic laterals are located are the only place I have any bright green grass now. The rest of the yard is looking pretty brown. That grass must be tough, it comes back every year but then, so do the weeds.

I envy you all down south not having to mow grass every darn weekend like we have been doing. Only time I have time to mow is weekends since get home 7 p.m. from work daily. Have mowed that 1 hour near dark til 8 pm. but that is no fun either push mowing still not eat supper
brown grass is a blessing to me means no mowing for a month or so. It always grows back eventually.

I have decided you work too hard! It’s time to move to redneck country. Just don’t move into a place with an HOA and grass mowing will become optional!

During the heat of the summer my lawn (mostly Kentucky bluegrass] stops growing, do have a few "brown" patches no matter how much water I throw at it. I can go two weeks without mowing, then it just to get all the sort of green stuff the same height. Now is starting to get cooler, well not this weekend, the grass is greener and needs attention. I do try to remove the dandelions from the mix, but still have a few out there. Have a few neighbors who do worry about them and the wind does blow here.

I only scalp the yard to keep the snakes out . They hate short grass.Everything is still green here both weeds and grass. I do need to mow , but putting food up is more important. My JD L111 does OK , I think he needs some blade mant. Something I don't do yet

My tall fescue (in clay soil) nearly stops growing every summer (water or not, and I don't do that much). I may have mowed 3 times in months, though I have a couple small shady spots that grow and I'll clean up in a few minutes.
The leaves and detritus from multiple 100yo oaks make a mess, and it's easier to mow it up than blow and rake it up. But I did that yesterday anyway rather than mow.

less mowing grass, the better. now that it is dark out before 8 p.m. get home from work 7 pm. daily no time and ruins my weekends to go to fun places if having to mow grass.
luckily I have a wife who likes to mow the yard push mowing so we have 2 push mowers I get the older one all beatup but runs still to do the trimming while she goes longer faster open areas with the nicer toro self propelled push mower.
My wife works for company who owns spectracide so she can get dirt cheap items like wasp spray, pesticides, ant killer pellets, deer repellent, and even spectracide weed n feed liquid spray bottles that I use with garden hose 2x's per year works very well at controlling the weeds for just a few bucks per bottle well worth it.

Count your blessings! I’ve got just shy of 2 acres which I’m happy to have which gives me good separation from my neighbors. I’ve got a zero turn mower which makes mowing a snap for 2 acres. But, I’ve got neighbors who are paying $hundreds a month for lawn care including weed control and fertilizer. I’ve looked at the available weed control products that include fertilizer and have concluded that it’s too expensive for me too. I’m not complaining, I’m just tighter than bark on a tree!

I still have to mow at the latest every 2 weeks, but I do have a lawn tractor to mow the .75 acre (takes me about 1.5 hours), then there is the trimming (which I'm not great at performing or even attempting).

My grass is the shade of brown that I really am beginning to like. Most of my front yard is bare due to 2 huge oak trees. Hay Jimmyt

I’m not complaining, I’m just tighter than bark on a tree! 2 acres is a lot of mowing, wish I had that much land. Yah, lucky can get fertilizer spray dirt cheap from wife's company, should use it more than usually only once per year since a basic spray bottle weed n feed hook onto my hose does my basic standards city lost 100x110 ft is all. No way could have a garden hose that long to do 2 acres. LOL Yah, working til 6 p.m. home by 7 pm. surely sucks not that I work too hard or longer hours, but that is the hours I took and was given. Am thinking of quiting and getting a job working only 32 hours tops per week not that I make a ton of money anyways even a part time gig is am sure what I would be making now or very close to it only out 1-2 bucks per hour tops. Is sad to think both my kids in 20's started out as teachers just a few years ago and their starting pay 1st year is a tad MORE than mine is now after working over 30 years. I surely picked all my life the WRONG places to work for that is a FACT.
