I bought a house.  I go to post office to get change of address info.
D O  I T  online crazy2 Try to fill out all the bs.
There was an online fee of $1.50. Trying to finish and get on , I was unable to complete (because I did not buy from the site supporters.)  I closed out the screen and said Screw it.
I have personal ,corporate and my deceased wife residual business mail.
I received a letter asking for proof of Bonnie's passing. No issues. I have it.
Next I get a letter asking for a statement from Bonnie that I have the authority to change the address.
Then I receive a confirmation (5)  for the accounts. I only submitted three.
The confirmations had solicitations for products. Nine sheets of "buy me ,no, "sign up online.
   Can you say RECYCLE.

You go on line, or use or give your email to commercial/business/govt, and you get punished with 27 solicitations to buy stuff.

Delete before opening and/or unsubscribe.

You go in person and they want your email anyway.  "Gee, I don't have email (or a cell phone)."   Grin

Welcome to the new US Mail. They are really down sizing as we lost our (2 mi. away) office for shipping USPS. Got to go 7 mi. which is questionable at this time but 12 mi. and 26 mi. to do business for sure. Our recent carrier is a smoker and don't open the box far enough to activate the arrival flag unless Temu leaves a package and a way more wrong address mail.

I get much of the same junk. I donated to a charitable group a couple years ago, totally unsolicited, and ever since have been inundated with requests from numerous organizations. The original group recently asked by mail why I hadn't responded so told them why...they sold my contact info.

AARP is equally ridiculous. My membership expires in December, so starting in June I get letters bugging me to "renew now" which I toss in file 13. I average at least two reminders a month and once even was called about renewing. I PO'd the caller, a whiney sounding female, by telling her to let me have membership for free and they can pay for it by not sending letters 2-3 times a month for the six months before expiration. The only reason I have it is many places we stay in our travels only takes AARP for a hotel discount. One night usually pays for the membership. I have other memberships I can use but often aren't recognized, a funny incident in a small one-horse town out west where the hotel manager lady told me they didn't take AARP but did take AOPA, AAA...and others. Then she added "since you most likely don't have AOPA tell me what others cards you have." She about lost her dentures when I pulled out my AOPA card. Her response was "well I'll be a monkey's uncle" whereupon I had to tease by telling her first she just dated herself, second she could only be a "monkey's aunt" which brought a big 'ole belly laugh. Twas a pleasant stay indeed.  Smiley

For clarification, AOPA stands for Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, which I've been a member of for nearly 45 years. I joined when I first got my license to go bore holes in the sky.

I support (donate to) conservative candidates for President, and in my state of VA.  I do it once per election in a larger amount, not 20 smaller amounts.

Whether they sell it or more likely give it away, I am solicited by conservative candidates all over the country, constantly.  The GOP calls me every week, forever (I never pick up).   tickedoff

I'm not going to call and complain about it  (I'm glad they're all running and hope they all win).

I will always vote conservative, but I may never donate again, unless I can discover a way to do it entirely anonymously.  (But not sending cash in the mail)

I used to get such mailings and phone calls/texts.   When I finally got tired of it, I would respond or use the envelope using the prepaid postage with their provided information with an additional note stating I had changed political affiliation and would be donating to a different candidate.   In that I had been a lifelong Democrat until the "Party" left me and moved to the Left Coast, my name came off their contact list.  Although, I never voted for a straight ticket and rarely voted for any Dem for a statewide position or a federal position.   My biggest voting error was supporting Ross Perot, he never had a real chance but, I thought I was making a statement.   No one heard my voice, a wasted vote.

I made the same Perot error.  I was too young to really understand the 3rd party situation, but am well aware now.

John, I am not an AARP member.  When I check in at a hotel (at the desk; I don't usually reserve) I ask if there are any discounts for which I might be eligible.  They always ask if I am an AARP member.  I reply by telling them I am not but I am old.  They almost always give me the AARP discount (unless the military veteran is the same or better).

I do appreciate the fact that you tell them you aren't an AARP member.   If they decide to give you the discount, good for you.   My wife and I are members.   I usually also asked for a Girl Scout Discount but, it never seems to work.   I definitely ask for Military Discounts if available and tend to shop more at locations that do discount for Veterans than those that don't.    That discount I feel Veterans have earned.
