I started my second motorcycle phase in 1999 at the urging of my best buddy. Both of us had ridden some in the seventies and eighties before we ever met each other then growing families and other obstacles arose and motorcycles went away. He (Steve) bought his Valkyrie in September 1999 and I bought mine in March 2000. We rode a lot and had many great adventures together for about 15 years . Steve went through a bunch of bikes, many different Valkyries, an 1800 Wing, and a couple of Vtx’s, I still have my one and only Valkyrie and an 08 Wing. Then my son had his premie twin boys and everything changed for me, my bike got parked, I moved across the state and Steve sold his last bike.

Another 10 years goes by where I add the 1800 and I start needling Steve about getting another bike. He’s receptive but just can’t seem to find the right deal on the right bike. I finally gave up on the idea as he has a lot going on in his life with grandkids spread across the country.

I got a call from Steve who is a year younger than I and he was calling from a hospital in Nashville, he has suffered a stroke! His right side has been affected but it seems to me as strokes go, he got off light. They are going to keep him there and do several weeks of rehab. I really don’t know how he is as he always puts up a good front and like me he puts himself in Gods hands and just keeps going pushing forward.

We believe in the power of prayer and if you are so inclined, say a prayer for my friend Steve Chaffin, he’s a good’un!

Sorry about your friend John.

No matter what hobbies you take into retirement and old age, one of them better be staying in shape with some exercise and some care in what you eat and drink.

My daily exercise and good diet are not really hobbies or all that fun, but I've made them a habit (good ones).  They can be nice people, but I don't really like to spend any time at all time with doctors and nurses.

I try not to preach about it.  Everybody ought to do just what they want.

John,
He still here and if he's anything like you, his strong faith and the drive that gets him through every day will help him rehab.   Will keep him (along with others) in my thoughts and prayers.

It's things like this that strengthen an already strong character.   Will be pulling for Steve.

Sorry to hear the bad news about your friend. I will add Steve Chaffin to our daily prayer list. May the Lord restore him to full function.

Talked to Steve again last night and the one thing that stood out was how much hospitals/healthcare reminds me of the military life. Hurry up and wait! Not really a criticism of either as they are both indispensable establishments. Steve has been there since last Friday and I’m sure they have been running tests and doing other necessary things. But still he is anxious to get started on his rehab but other than some walking the halls it looks like today might be the day rehab officially starts. But all said, his only real complaint so far is he hasn’t had a shower since he got there. I asked him if he had picked out his choice of nurse to help him out with that endeavor  :cooldude he didn’t particularly find that amusing!

To add insult to injury, his wife had been with him since last Friday, but she had to return home for some necessary chores, and when she got home she found their refrigerator had quit and they lost all its content including close to $200.00 worth of insulin. I’m sure he is anxious to put all this in his rear view mirror. So he is counting his blessings and letting the small stuff just roll off to the side.

The bolded quote is probably the most important thing.   Still pulling for Steve.
