To anyone who has changed a clutch slave cylinder: Can I wiggle it out without removing the side stand bracket? I'm well into Week 2 trying to get that second bracket bolt out. I have a Rivco center stand bracket in the way so I can't use an impact wrench. The bolt screws into the bracket and there's 29 years of rust in there I'm sure.  The only wrench that fits into that stupid spot is a crowfoot socket. I'm not looking forward to pulling the rear wheel and swing arm to gain access to cut the bolt head off.  Angry

After 30 years I'm ready to button this thing up and sell it. I'm too old to crawl under this thing.  On the plus side, if I need an EMT to get off the garage floor Medicare only charges $99.   Grin

Thanks all.

Sorry I can't remember if I had to remove the side stand bracket when I did my clutch revit repair over 20 years ago or the slave swap I did about 10 years ago Roll Eyes

Just looking under the bike, it seems like you might be able to remove the slave w/o pulling the side stand bracket.

I'd definitely try it.

If working on the old girl is too hard at your present age and condition, selling is a good option. These bikes seem to be going down, not up in resale value so don’t wait too long. They are still in fairly high demand but that won’t last.

I just did this and I’m going so say NO with the original bolt. Once you have it out, you can shorten the bolt 3/16 of an inch and it will be easier to work with without effecting integrity. Just don’t over tighten it and use some removable thread lock compound.

OR…you can mimic my cut and modify the bracket to allow the full length bolt to clear..

.

I’m 72 and still enjoy rolling around on a good piece of cardboard with my HF knee pads.

I rebuilt my slave recently and definitely removed the side stand, don't think you could without. That said heat and PB blaster are your friend. Soak with PB for a day hitting it a few times through the day and then get a torch and heat it up. Good luck!

I removed more of the Valkyrie and am now able to actually see the bolt for the first time. I can also get to it looking down from the top. Been hitting it and the two brackets with PB Blaster daily. I'll try heat. Removing the rear wheel might let me use 4-feet of breaker bar extension. Finally I might try an impact driver at low torque and just rattle the bolt for awhile.

On the plus side the other three bikes are running and up to date on preventive maintenance.
