So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Covington, TN

« on: November 07, 2025, 06:12:21 PM »

Planning for an early start this morning.

Things don't always go as planned.   Heading north on a state four lane coming into a city with quite a few stop light and speed cameras, I was at or slightly below the posted speed limit.   Driving in the left lane with traffic on the right, I saw a vehicle at the intersection waiting to turn and cross my lane.   I had a green light, he still proceeded to turn.   I braked hard and headed to the right lane in the middle of the intersection but, didn't quite make it.   Got T Boned.    The impact slid us about 8 feet to the right.  I got stopped about 30 feet from the intersection.   I checked on my wife who thought she was OK and then rushed to the other vehicle to check on that person(s).

The window got rolled down and the words I heard were NO ENGLISH!   Called 911.

LEOs, FD and Ambulance arrived.  LEO start taking statements.   My non-English speaking competitor in this doesn't have a license, it wasn't his car and my understanding is no proof of insurance.   My vehicle and his car get towed, I leave with my son.   LEOs tell me to have a good evening.

My wife is now experiencing tingling going down her neck and shoulders.   She left in that ambulance.  What I haven't told you is, she just had spinal surgery while having C4-C7 fused with cadaver bones and steel rods placed about two weeks previously.   We spent the night in the ER getting X Rays, CAT scanned and MRI things done.

She's now home with Doctor's prescriptions and order to do nothing, absolutely nothing and come see her neuro surgeon Monday.   Swelling at the C3/C4 vertebra.  He wants to monitor versus go back in, we'll see.

Went to the tow yard to retrieve some things from the wife's vehicle.   The lady running the show says yes, we have all three of those vehicles.   Huh? Huh?

I said there were only two vehicles involved.   She then starts telling me that they towed three vehicles from the scene.   Two actually involved in the accident, another vehicle showed up after I left with a load full of Hispanics (I'm told) who are arguing with the LEOs and actually get involved in a physical altercation, end up getting arrested and towed in.

Had a body shop take a look at the Ridgeline, he thought the adjuster would total the vehicle.   This has not been a good week.

Prayers for your wife and hope she heals up with time.
This whole thing sucks, but I guess we have to deal with the Obama/Biden country they created…

Very sorry to hear about your wife. I hope with the rest that her doctor prescribed will be sufficient to get her feeling “normal” again. Hopefully any imaging the doctor orders will reveal or show any evidence of new damage. I hope no emergency repairs are necessary.

As for the motor vehicle issues…DL, registration and insurance, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about this type of situation and is why we carry quite a bit of coverage for our protection.

Good luck on your repairs to your truck, I’m glad your wife was not innthe driver’s seat on impact.

Appreciate the responses, I just needed to vent.

Yeah, I'm well past ticked off.   What else I might have been able to do to avoid this and the circumstances that brought all of this to fruition.   The LEOs were very specific about where the fault lays but, I've still got an injured wife and a destroyed Ridgeline.   Going to have to work on that forgiving thing.   Angry

so very sorry for your wife and yourself

I have recommended SUM coverage equal to your liability for over 40 years and your liability should be no less than 250k

You have to also fill out a claim form for the SUM claim as well as the no fault claim form and collision or you forfeit your rights  usually you have to do it within 30 days

SUM is supplemental underinsured motorist  Basically YOUR company pays YOU for the pain and suffering No fault pays up to 100k if you have the riders on your policy

I carry 500k on all the vehicles and pay the more or less 100 for the SUM rider
If my company offered 1M I would have it.  Odds of being hurt are greater than just dropping dead even at your age  : )

Other than collision it is really the only part of your insurance intended to protect you and your family from this kind of criminal or negligent behavior

So if you have a SUM on your declarations page of your policy you have up to that available for your wonderful spouse's claim

Find an attorney experienced in HOW to negotiate the SUM claim as a dumb mistake is the worst outcome

You can PM me or call if you have my cell # with any questions  You can also scan me the declarations page at   evan@evanrogerslaw.com     I cant represent you but I can tell you what is what so you can get started.

I am so very sorry for you and your wife and will pray for her to heal.

As for the car let them total it if that is not already decided. It will be better for you and you will get a new truck rather than dealing with a vehicle that bent the frame.

You made no mention of how you are doing?

Thank you.  The Ridgeline is only a concern due to it (most likely needing to be replaced).   My wife woke this morning screaming, reliving the accident in her dreams and still is sore as hell.  Scared the hell out of me (and her).

I'm good, just tired/worn out.   Thanks for asking.

Sorry to hear of this.  I hope your wife recovers fully.

Prayers for you and your wife.

Appreciate that.   cooldude

Appreciate the response.  There is no doubt front and rear recorder cams could come in handy in such situations.   Thankfully, fault in this case was easily established.

Hopefully she (And you!) get the healing, physically and mentally that's needed quickly.

I do appreciate the response; we most likely have similar feelings on this.   Hopefully, she will heal and get past this and eventually she'll be driving something different.  Probably another Ridgeline.   At least my new "friend" didn't make a run for it.   Although, I'm not sure how far he would have gotten.

Appreciate the response and yes it could have been much worse.   My wife seems to be recovering although still sore with some of that tingling still present but not as bad as before.   Taking her back to see her surgeon tomorrow.  Should learn more today I hope about the Ridgeline.

Reference the other folks involved, play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Thanks again Carl.

Same here Brian.  I really don't want to get under ole Willow's skin, so I deleted what I had prepared.  They didn't follow the rules of the road, but they probably can't read said rules anyway.

Ron, praying for your wife.  She shouldn't have to go through this after her surgery.

Jimmy,
Thanks, I appreciate the response and have similar feelings that I'm working on.   I can easily forgive the damage/loss of the Ridgeline, I'm having a hard time with doing that reference my wife.
She does seem to be improving, at least her supervisory skills haven't decreased.  Wink

Holy crap Ron.  Sorry to hear about this.  Sure hope things work out for you and your wife.

Appreciate the response and the message.

Some of the things I initially posted may or may not be accurate.   This I'm finding out as the days go by.   I have found several errors in the Police Report.   So, I'm not really sure about some of the things about the other driver is still accurate.

One thing I found out while picking up my accident report is that the other driver is Honduran and he was arrested after I left.   But that information is not contained within the accident report I was provided with.   Learned that from the Admin Lady at the PD.   She looked up his name in her computer and told me about that.   I can assume a couple of things from this but, I'll hold back for now.

Again, thanks for the message.   My only advice is to watch your back, your front and both sides.  Wink
