Two hundred fifty years ago a group of patriots willing to sacrifice met at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia.  The step they made in that first recruitment of Continental Marines has made an immeasurable impact on the world over the past two and a half centuries.

To all the Marines of the United States of America, happy birthday!  May the world never be without the few, the proud, the Marines.

Marines are who you send in the really dirty work (short of Special forces operators). And in large numbers, the Marines are probably their equals.

My dad was a SSgt in the Corps.

When I was born (1953), he was building Marine/Navy airstrips in Puerto Rico.  Having a son was not a reason they would grant him leave to go home.  But his father died the same week I was born, and he was allowed to go home for that, so he got to see me.  Of course I was told about this.  (He's gone 12 years now  Cry)
