This may be a stupid question, but I have had problems with my radio for years and am bidding on ebay for one.  Here is the dumb question Are the CB and Radio one unit. I always thought I had CB and am almost sure of it, but I just have one box under the seat.  Again, sorry for my ignorance.

The CB mounts under the trunk and you would have an antenna on the left side to match the radio antenna.

CB mounts under the trunk.  The radio mounts under the seat.

What problem are you having with your CB?

Radio is under the seat. It has two round 13 wire plugs on about 8 inches of wire hanging out ot it. (and a bunch of other wires) If there is a CB on the system it will be pluged into one of those plugs (the one marked CB) The other plug is marked CD and I have never tracked down the pin out of that plug. The bike will also have two antennas on it.

If the only trouble you are having with the radio under the seat is the cb does'nt work, it's because you don't have a CB!  It is a separate unit, and it is under the trunk!  It cimes with a harness that plugs into the radio under the seat.  Everything is controlled by the control unit on the left handlebar, with a complex multi function control.  The instructions are in the owners manual.  If you don't have one, get one.  Otherwise good luck on figuring it out!  Just tryin to help, honest.  Hoser
This one don't got no CB.(only one antenna, stereo works fine though, I played my mp 3 through it using the aux. input.  It's all in the owners manual.

I have talked to two IS owners who told me they had CB's, but just never used them.  When we looked at their bikes, there was no CB!  They thought they had one, because the button was there on the handlebar.  What hoser said above is correct.  CB uses a second antenna, and the unit is mounted under the trunk.  Bend down, and look up under there, and see if there is a box.

Some use a different CB, mount it elsewhere, and convert the AM antenna for both.  So, it is possible to have CB without 2nd antenna and box under seat, but that is the OEM setup.

It was mentioned that some use a different CB. What other options are people using? I like having one a few times a year but always think the money would be better spent on chrome  Cool

Yamaha Royal Star Venture CB, it is a direct plug and play for the interstate, all the factory controls and display work correctly. Just keep an eye on Ebay, I bought one from Pinwall cycle, for $129. Installed it a couple months ago, and works fine.  I did not install it under the trunk as the factory one was, I removed some plastic from the rear of the battery box, and installed it there. It is under the factory am/fm radio.

Are there certain years only that work or any year?

That's good to know, Grumpy, if I ever get another interstate I'll look for one.  hoser

The one I purchased was from  1999 Yamaha Venture Royal Star XVZ1300, I believe newer years are the same.
